Found helmet cam at tot

Post by Hawkayaks » Thu Dec 22, 2011 9:35 pm

I know there is a lost and found page but I thought more people might see this here. While I was at the Tot a couple weeks ago the camp maintenance personnel told me they found a helmet cam that had some footage of the river but evidently had been knocked off the helmet and lost but washed up on the bank where they found it. I think they said the last rapid on it was the esses and then some pretty cool footage of it being washed down the river and lodged up until the battery or memory card ran out, but it still functions they said. Supposedly it was brand new because earlier footage shows him trying to work it with a friend in a barber shop or something like that. If you know who it belongs to could you please tell them it is found. Thanks, Hahns.

I know who this belongs to! Give me a shout at the shop!

Whats up Mackey, thanks for responding but I dont have the camera. As far as I know it is at the Tot visitors center but the personnel that maintain the camping areas are the ones that told me about it and said that they had it. Really hope it gets back to its rightful owner. Thanks dude, Hahns.

Those folks at the Tot Center are good folks for sure. They returned my billfold (contents intact) a couple of years ago. Props to them.

Holy crap!! I believe that camera belongs to a friend of mine. His name is Don Thornton and lost his camera while swimming the esses last Dec. I think! He was in a 14' canoe with no floatation and obviously in over his head. I'm a hairstylist and a couple days before the Tot run he got a haircut and showed me his sweet new camera... It was a gift from his new mother-in-law. He went back the following week and hiked up to the esses to look for it to no avail. I would not have even thought it was his if you hadn't mentioned the barbershop scene still on the camera! I will try to post pics of him before and after the esses...

Thank you for the post!! Can hardley believe someone found it

So, it was/is my friend's camera... a Tachyon XC. I picked it up from the visitor's center today and I am totally amazed! Ya know, in a time when people are trampling and pepper spraying each other on black friday to get dicounted mechandise, it's refreshing to know that there are some good people left in the world and restores my faith in humanity a bit. Also refreshing is the realization that there are still incredibly rugged products being made in a time where most things are expensive but cheaply made and practically disposable. This camera traveled 2 miles over the last 2 years (not 1 yr like I originally thought) UNDERWATER, bouncing down the Tot and not only looks barely used, but still works!!!! Incredible... on multiple levels. My buddy is stopping by my place after work to pick it up (he thinks he's coming to see the new GOPro I recieved for Xmas) He will no doubt crap himself.

Thank you so much once again for the post, without which this tough little camera would have never found it's way home...

That is one incredible story and such a happy ending. If it were my camera, there might have been more than a barbershop scene on there. . .just kidding!

Reminder: it is a great idea to take a photo/video of your contact info written out on paper and keep this as your first image and never delete it. There are alot of good people that will bend over backwards to get it to you!! This story is AWESOME!
