Blow Logs

Post by Eric Esche » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:57 am

I have been trying to find some blow logs for some folks, and the places where I have been getting mine have not had any, but I've kept asking and word of mouth, and a harder economy yielded a phone call this morning from a logger who says he knows for sure of at least 6, and up to a dozen on a ridge that he might could get. He said he'd get back with me in a couple of days.

I offered $10, he said that might be low, but he would see what he could do. I also got the gist that he didn't want to be selling them one at a time and taking lots of calls, so if this s to work out, I guess I might be a blow log hot line.

I'm not going to take or make a penny for the referral, but I gathered that a bulk buy might keep the price down and I was going to get six or so to keep on hand, and now Susan is not wanting me to stock pile them here at the house.

I'm in NW AR on Beaver Lake outside of Rogers - Give me shout if you want one and what you think you could pay and I will try to work something out. If you have a place where we could stock pile them, call me too.

Now comes the question I've wanted to ask for a year. What's a blow log? The name alone connotes something I must have as I gather it's something that would appeal to a pyro (not that I know any  ).
You come too.

Here's a little footage from a NW chapter Halloween party a couple years ago.. . We have since enacted a "NO PROPANE" rule.

If you do a search on Youtube or Vimeo, about 50% of the blow logs (one word or two) will be from parties in Arkansas, particularly if the video is loud and taken at a long distance.

But you do not have to have explosions to enjoy the beauty of one. Bacon grease and other tricks also work rather well.

I have one that I will give you. How tall does it have to be?

Furthermore, I discover them in my business.

I wonder if anyone manufactures blow logs. Just a log with the center bored out, yano?
For that matter, does it even have to be wood? Isn't the chimney effect what you're going for? Maybe just use a thick-walled steel or ceramic pipe of sufficient length and diameter. A reusable blow log (blow pipe?).

Maybe we should think outside the log.

We have members who are already doing research on that with PVC pipe, but I think they call them Potatoe Guns.
