Pollution of Bayou Meto

Post by boba » Mon Dec 05, 2011 7:47 am

Dear Fellow Arkansas Canoe Club Member,

I am contacting you to notify you about industrial pollution of the Bayou Meto River. The Bayou Meto is one of the most significant waterfowl resources along the North American Flyway. There is currently an investigation underway regarding a company that is discharging various pollutants, including high levels of lead, copper and fecal coliform, into the Bayou Meto in violation of its Clean Water Act permit issued by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. These violations have been going on repeatedly for years. We wanted to notify Canoe Club members who use the Bayou Meto area around Lonoke, AR and downstream of there about this ongoing pollution. We’d also like to talk to any members who are interested in the water quality of the Bayou Meto and want the pollution stopped and the river cleaned up. If you have any input or questions about this investigation, please contact me by phone or by email. bob@ozarker.org 479 331 3472

Thank you for your time and all you do for the environment.

Obviously that should be pollution, not polluon. Spell check doesn't warn me it a subject line. :problem:

No wonder it made the 303d list

http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/water/branc ... t_2008.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can't remember which page off of the top of my head.... But I do remember that it is listed as impaired for aquatic life do to lead.

Hmm, I guess that's one unknown source of pollution no longer!

Thanks for the info Bob!

Thanks for your interest Terry, but we are looking for folks who have or would recreate in the area. If you have canoed, hunted, fished etc in the area or intend to, please get in touch.

Grant, I'm not at liberty to discuss the particulars in an open forum other to say "...regarding a company that is discharging various pollutants, including high levels of lead, copper and fecal coliform..."

I'll honor that and not post any guesses. I sent you an e-mail with some possible contacts.
