Condit Dam Removal - White Salmon River
Condit Dam Removal - White Salmon River
The Condit Dam on the White Salmon River is scheduled to be breached today. I think some of you have floated it. This will open a new whitewater run and 14 miles of Salmon habitat. At 125' tall this will be the largest dam ever decommissioned in the United States.

Re: Condit Dam Removal - White Salmon River
I can't wait for all the YouTube videos tonight and tomorrow. I bet a Graham and Renee of Washington was hiding down below and rode the wave out. The wall of water coming out to the Columbia River was cool, I bet. And I missed the actual explosion with a work document open on my screen. Frickin' work.

Men may dam it and say they have made a lake, but it will always still be a river.

Re: Condit Dam Removal - White Salmon River
They are gonna be all kinds of busy pulling down the rest of the dam and getting all that silt out of there. I can hardly believe the amount of sedimentation that had accrued. Still, it was nearly 100 years old, so that's plenty of time for it to build up. If only we get to see this happen a few dozen more times over the next decade.
