Re: CURRENT & JACKS FORK OCT 16 - 20
Excellent report, 13blackwater. THANKS! Your observations are right on target with ours from last October. I really enjoyed the Eleven Point from Greer to the next takeout, Whitten, a lot too, as well as the Current. Eleven Point had more pools but there were more eddies to catch and the scenery was more rugged. Next spring I want to do the uppermost Jacks Fork and expect it to be superb, but the other two seem to be a better choice than Alley Springs down on the Jacks Fork.
Welcome to the message board, hope to hear lots more from you.

Re: CURRENT & JACKS FORK OCT 16 - 20
Some thoughts (for the folks who like some slightly adventuresome paddling):
1) If you have at least 110 cfs at the Montauk gage on the Current
(http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?cb ... o=07064440" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), try the section from Tan Vat access (just below Montauk State Park) to Akers. 15 miles of delightfully quick, twisty trout stream. Above 300 cfs, it is even better.
2) If you are there soon after a rain, try the South Prong of Jack's Fork from Mo HWY Y just north of Mountain View to Buck's Hollow (7 miles) or to Rymer's Access (17 miles). Gage at Mountain View should read 200 cfs minimum for tandem boats.
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?cb ... o=07065200" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At higher flows, there is one pretty interesting Class II- rapid just before Rymer's.
3) Buck's Hollow to Bay Creek or Alley Spring is also a good time and needs a bit less water than the upper section mentioned in 2) We've paddled this at around 300 cfs at the Alley Spring gage, and that is a good level.
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv?cb ... o=07065495" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
None of the above are too friendly for novices.
regards,
al

Al:
These are GREAT references to have!! THANKS!!!
Looks like we have an good shot at decent water on the upper Current, and the Jack's Fork, while seasonally low, is still better than last October. If you end up free, join us.
Glad you're going, Ann.

If we arrive Friday, is anyone floating on the 15th Saturday so we could paddle both days. If I am on a 4 day weekend I will have to be back to work on Tuesday.

Karla & Gary:
There may be 1 - 2 others there Friday night. I have high school football duties (28 years head of chain gang ) and cannot leave until Saturday morning. You could easily do Jacks Fork Monday, then drive home. Last fall we did it, broke camp, drove all the way to Louisiana. In early Oct I'll get you more info.

Re: CURRENT & JACKS FORK OCT 16 - 20
Is anyone famliar with the Current Paddling on Saturday. We would like to paddle both days. We may come up and stay on Friday and Saturday. Any recommendations for where to stay as far as hotel/cabin? We may try to find cabin that more than one couple could stay in maybe.

Karla,
Circle B Campground is where the campers usually stay. Besides a campground, they have cabins and motel rooms. Wide selection. I reserved a motel room this time. Good folks to deal with, nice place to stay. The takeout from Alley Spring is there at Circle B. It's on the banks of Jacks Fork. Check 'em out online. Ruby's cafe has great breakfast. Other good places for dinner/drinks.

Thanks Jan. How many bedrooms do the cabins have and are they on the Current? Don't have a boat yet, it is suppose to come it, the blue knight black ops.

Circle B is on Jack's Fork river. It's not far to the Current, tho.
Cabins sleep 2-8 people. I'm not sure what's available, so give 'em a call. They are very close to town and only a few miles from Alley Spring on Hwy 106. I made my reservation in August to be sure I had a room. Last year I switched from a cabin to tent camping because the weather was so nice.

Hey Louis,
Chris here from Eureka Springs. I wish I could make it, but having to pick and choose my weekend events. I'm planning on helping out on the lower Buffalo with the cleanup on the 16th, then will actually be camping in Eminence on the 21st through 23rd with wife's relatives at the big horse camp there called Cross Country Trail Rides. Sorry I'll just miss you guys. Had a good time at Rendezvous last month. Paddled with Gary and Carla. Wish you could have made it.

Re: CURRENT & JACKS FORK OCT 16 - 20, THIS WEEK!!!!
Hi gang:
We'll be paddling in Missouri in just 5 more days, paddling Sun Oct 16 after driving up Sat 15. I'm leaving Bossier early Saturday, 6 am to get there leisurely by mid-afternoon.
Remember we'll be staying at Circle B Campground on the Jack's Fork River, website following: http://circlebcampground.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Plenty plenty of flat camping space. We have sites 23 - 26 reserved, and we all set up where ever, next to whomever, etc, so set up anywhere in these sites or nearby. They charge by person, not by site.
From Shreveport area we have me, Anne G, Laura T, Richard M, Tom T, Sandy R, Jack L. From elsewhere we have Catherine T (Monroe, LA), Bob R. (Little Rock), Ann D (Hot Springs), Phil from Hope, Minna from ElDorado, Jan from near Greenbrier, Eric E from near Beaver Lake. My oldest son will be there 1 day, Richard McFadden may join us mid-week, possibly Stephanie (Ark Canoe Club member), maybe Karla and Gary from Benton, AR a couple of days for the weekend.
weather projects to be sunny (YES!!), highs 70 - 75, lows 40 - 45: http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USMO0273" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We'll plan on getting EARLY STARTS FROM CAMP each day. Paddles based on expected water levels and one-way driving mileage from camp may include:
CURRENT: Welch Springs to Pulltite (35 miles); Pulltite to Round Springs (25 miles)
ELEVEN POINT: Greer to Whitten (30 miles)
JACKS FORK : Alley Springs to Eminence (15 miles)
GORGEOUS FALL WEASTHER, CLEAR MOVING WATER, GREAT COMPANY!!!
PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL ME AT 318-834-4771 FOR ANY INFO
REMEMBER: Each paddler MUST gather info on each stream and you and you alone make your own decision if your skills are appropriate and your boat, gear, clothing, etc. is suitable. There is no trip leader and I am serving as contact person.
