Critique my Shred Ready video please!
Critique my Shred Ready video please!
I'm in a contest that SR is holding to sponsor a new amateur boater. This is my video that I am thinking about entering in the contest. http://vimeo.com/29127475
How does it compare to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvA1whhw4os ?
Give me your honest opinion and advice on what I can do to improve my video. Thanks a bunch!

Hey Jordan, I don't know if it is just because I tried to view your video on my iPhone, but I couldn't view it. I was able to view the other video.

Well, they both have the obligatory helmet shot, and both feature good music. That dude's vid seemed to lean more towards cartwheels and tricks while your vid was more about creeking and steep drops. Personally, I prefer the creek footage and all those luverly boofs you had in there over watching some dude in a jackson do cartwheels all day.

I like yours better. The other one had too much playboating (enough loops already...) and the stills at the end were distracting (thought my player froze for a moment). Keep up the good work.

I agree with the other comments about the right mixture of paddling versus playing. That's really good in my opinion. I do have one suggestion which would be to either cut more of the helmet cam footage or to shorten those clips.
The beauty of helmet cam footage is that it gives foot person perspective but too much of it is also at the same time disorienting. Visually my cognition is to see motion when I'm in motion and so the brain processes and adjusts. But when sitting still looking at a screen watching motion where the camera is in dynamic motion it causes me to get out of whack because my heading isn't moving. That may not make much sense to anyone else. Its weird because in short bursts 3 - 4 second clips transitioned to camera is still but subject is in motion and it works. But when you have 3 - 4 second clips of helmet followed by 3 - 4 second clips of more helmet cam it sortta just messes with the head.
I think using the helmet cam footage is fine but do it less or shorter and if you need to add time to match your score then add more bank footage or some stills with Ken Burns motion.
Best of luck you've got a good product.

Good job Jordan. Can't disagree with what has been posted and yes I would also give your video the nod. As far as suggestions - some of the Norrell footage was dark and I would leave some of it and take out some. Looks like you had your hands full at the Machine - I wanted to see how it ended. Do you have any carnage drama on camera?
Good Luck.

Re: Critique my Shred Ready video please!
i agree with everybody else. if you have some footage of the helmet taking a hit protecting your noggin would be a big plus...awesome video otherwise..
Re: Critique my Shred Ready video please!
Thanks guys! I've been told by others I need to sync the footage with the beat of the music along with your suggestion about shortening the clips. Unfortunately I don't really have any carnage footage while wearing an SR helmet. Most of the video I was wearing a Sweet :O I'll try to get some more footage from the shore at the throwdown this weekend.

It was my iPhone. I definitely like yours better than the other one. I'll be glad to help you get more footage this weekend if you want.
Re: Critique my Shred Ready video please!
My phone won't play the video either. That would be great if you could!
