Hiking Richland
I'll be hiking Richland Sunday AM. Planning on some fishing and photo's. Are there enough pools above the campground at this level to justify a fishing pole, or should I leave it in the truck and try my luck below the campground?
Re: Hiking Richland
I don't fish, but there are pools over my head in quite a few areas. Not sure if the big fish are making it down, though because its pretty shallow running over bedrock not far north of the campground.
Don't be tempted to park at the campground behind the gate. They are ticketing...

Re: Hiking Richland
Think your best results fishing will be downstream. Drive down the shuttle road and go down the lower Richland shuttle to that take-out.
Start your journey there if you wish to go for the smallmouth. Best fishing is down from that point according to Dale.
Other options but I ain't telling!
PS: wish I can go with you!

Re: Hiking Richland
Thanks for the info. Not too concerned about big fish, just need some pools to catch whatever. More interested in the scenery of the upper, as I'll have the family with me.
Re: Hiking Richland
There are some really cool fossils in the rocks if you hike straight up the creek from the campground. Go past 3 fairly large pools of water (one where the left side is clif) to where you find the rockbed. Little creature fossils everywhere! Take some water shoes and enjoy.

Re: Hiking Richland
I'm not sure whether you are referring to the increasingly fossilized appearance of our formerly Adonis-like bodies, or the fact that we wrote the book on hiking Richland Creek.prophet wrote:thought this was going to be an ARG joke for a second

Re: Hiking Richland
We had a great time out there today scouting out our next hike, which will likely be at 12" airspace as well. Saw a few rattle headed copper moccasins. Caught so many fish we quit counting. Got one that was this
big.
We did find the fossils, however they were shaped like some sort of tubeworms, I don't see how they could possiblly row a raft.
Made it a little above Cindy's Nice to see the creek a a little slower pace, got some cool pics with the fam.
