Anyone going to Gauleyfest?

Post by Shep » Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:20 pm

I need to get a boat back to Arkansas from Gauleyfest (or central PA afterwards). Anybody headed that way with some empty rackspace? I'd be happy to pay $50 in beer/gas money.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul

What kind of boat? ARG is going to the Gauley Sept 22-25. However, I personally hate kayaks and would be disinclined to bring one of (spits on the ground) them back with us (beer money or no beer money).

Davidbob, the boat is a Blackfly Option which requires mastery of the single-blade paddle. http://www.blackflycanoes.com/option.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Check out the back of the Blackfly T-Shirt.

Let's keep it clean, no hitting below the belt!

Actually it is a canoe, albeit a rotomolded plastic one. And might even be red. Yup, the Shepherd clan is importing the new hotness in canoes: http://www.blackflycanoes.com/option.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hmmm. gonna have to figure out the details. Gualeyfest is the weekend before, and my sister isn't as far west as I thought in PA, where I was going to have the boat stashed (she is 7 hours from Summersville).

I'll have to work on the details some more.

Thanks,
Paul

Where is the boat located now? Seems AR boaters have a pretty good kayak/canoe relocation program. I am delivering a boat to a guy from Philadelphia on Labor Day weekend (meeting at the Ocoee).

Jeremy, the owner/operator/boat-molder/former-open-boat-freestyle-world-champion, will be molding and outfitting them the week before Gauleyfest, and driving a van and trailer down. If there isn't someone that can pick it up at Gfest, there will be other opportunities for me to get it, but I figured I would ask. He is based in NH, and so the Gauley is the closest he will be getting to us for a while, and my scheduled visit to New England this fall is by plane. :problem:

Thanks for everybody putting our heads together about this.
Paul

p.s. Renee, I'll be at the Ocoee too, camping at Thunder Rock. Probably running the middle on Saturday, but I would like to do a run on the upper Sunday. Let me know if your group is likely to hit that run. I think I'm the only person in my group interested in the upper in anything smaller than a raft... (That probably means they are smarter than me) :crazy:

Shep we ran the Upper in playboats. It's really not a huge deal IMO, though it is worse than the middle.

Paul Shepard,
There is nothing wrong with running the Upper in rafts. Do not disrespect our group by commenting on the fact that an AWESOME bunch of guys who have been going to the Ocoee almost longer than you have been alive choose to run it in rafts. :myday" Besides, rafts get to go directly through the holes instead of around them.
Can't wait to see you and LR, btw! :wave:

Maggie, I didn't say anything disrespectful of the people in rafts. Unless, maybe stating that they are smarter than me is like saying a lady is prettier than a pitbull. Mainly, I don't expect to be able to watch a raft run something and get much information out of it that will be useful to me, which is why I am looking to see if any one else will be running in smaller boats.

BTW, can I get a ride home on Monday?

Thanks, :)
Paul

Paul,
Just giving you a hard time. And, yes you can get a ride home Monday. Either with Hannah and myself or Judge Jay. I think Basil will bail on Hannah and me to ride with Hilary so you can get in the minivan with us and Parker.

Yes, it will carry beer and isn't too hard to tow behind while swimming to the bank.

I am still trying to figure out how too keep the beer in while I tow it back to the bank.

From Overturnus I, Chapter 3, Verse 6:

"And the beer cans thus dispensethed from the open- topped vessel into the frothing waters shall be left untouched in sacrifice to the river gods. Whosoever plucketh the beerth from the river and openth them to slake his thirst shall incur the gods' wrath and receiveth a mighty spray of malted liquor."

So it is written. So let it be done.
