WTB: tandem canoe

Post by rynorris » Sat Jul 30, 2011 12:01 pm

We're in the market for a used tandem canoe. The Frog ate ours this spring. If you have one to sell please shoot me an email at rynorris@hotmail.com.

Hi

Just wanted to ask if you've called any of the campground/outfitters and asked if they had any for sale. I got a Buffalo for a good price at Byrd's on the Mulberry a few years ago. and the rental season will be winding down soon, and we have quite a few outfitters in Arkansas  to choose from
Thought it might help.

Thanks but I already tried that. I don't typically do business with people who giggle at me condecendingly when I try to negotiate price. In the future all my camping and shuttle needs will go to Byrds.

well it was a thought. and how dare you negotiate with their already low low prices, who cares if there's a few cracks in the hull, its still worth $700. And besides you can always drain it when you stop for a break anyway. just put everything in drybags so it wont matter when the canoe leaks! just remember to not seal the bag up if you bring a dog!

geez...do I have to think of everything?
How dare you expect to buy a used boat that doesnt leak
Just bring a bar of soap and take a long Leisurely bath down the Buffalo

I humbly bow to your superior (all be it exaggerated) cynical wit. But I still need a boat.

didn't know if you had seen this one, or it was too far to drive to go get it, but here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Penobscot-I6-Old-To ... 45fc16a0cd" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i'll keep looking until you say you bought one.

Lessons with Paul Shepard, Painter Bob, Arthur Bowie, or some one trained in open boat instruction that you would listen to would be a good investment and insurance if you are going to continue open boat. Wish you better luck with the next canoe

Ryan, OMTC has a used Buffalo for $599. It appears to be in pretty good shape. If the "scratches" are concerning you can always have me (aka The Canoe Doctor) install custom fit skid plates.
Paddle on,

Hello Ryan
Just wanted to throw this in....no jokes this time. But, I will be going to kc in a couple of days, So, if you do buy the E-Bay canoe, I could pick it up for you and meet you somewhere closer! It looks like Im buying the 2 solo canoe's Tomorrow (tue.) in hot springs, then delivering one of them to a friend in KC on Wed. so if you were interested and won the ebay auction, I'd be happy to get it and bring it back with me and meet you on Thursday. I'll be driving right past Lee's Summit so it wouldnt be a problem at all. I live 20 miles west of branson (Lampe, Mo.). Just let me know if I can help.

I went looking for a basic tandem a few years ago. My search began with some of the outfitters up on the Buffy one weekend when I was up that way and my experience was the same as yours. Later I checked with an outfitter on the Caddo and he told me to come see if he had anything I wanted. The next day I drove home with a Discovery 158 he sold me for $250. No cracks, no fuss, no muss. Just a thought. Happy hunting.
You come too.

The Old Town Tripper is considered by many to be the finest camping/all purpose canoe ever made. It'll hold a ton of gear, is stable, but will handle most whitewater with ease. I used to stand up in mine to fly fish.
Worst dumba** thing I ever did was sell it.
It was THE boat Harold and Margaret Hedges paddled on several trips I joined them on with the Ozark Society..
