Hey Chris,

Take a look on the 'Gear Review' page, there's a post titled ' Rank beginner needs advice on kayak', I think it will address your questions also.
Since you live in Batesville, the Spring River is certainly handy to your location. The Spring is rated at class I - II generally and is a favorite of many of us! It's especially nice during this hot and dry weather.
The ACC sponcers a paddling school on the Spring each year in late May-early June that's a lot of fun and, aims to help folks get the most out of using their canoes and kayaks.
Good luck with your kayak search, there are plenty of good used ones out there, if you don't get a new one :)

Best Regards
jim

My vote goes for the LL Remix XP10. Drop down skeg makes the difference. Great crossover boat, $1000 new. You can check one out at OOO in Hot Springs. Good luck in your search.
