Re: For Sale! Mohawk Probe 12 and Probe 12II
Wow! Immaculate! Have these been paddled? That saddle looks brand new. Which one is the Probe12 (formerly Probe12 II)?
Oops, never mind. I was able to zoom in and see that the green boat is actually the Probe 12. Something to consider is that the model's lengths have changed.
Here are the lengths for the boats pictured:
Probe 12II = 12’2” - green
Probe 12 = 12’8” – purple
If you need any additional info on these boats check out the whitewater canoes on our website:

I am disappointed to say that thebob.com has reposted this boat for sale for $250 more than he paid for it at cboats.net.

I hope everyone who takes the time to read Shep's opinion/concerns, will make the effort, and take the time, to read the full thread on Cboats........before labeling me as some sort of bad guy.
I am NOT offering the Probe 12 for sale.

Re: For Sale! Mohawk Probe 12 and Probe 12II
I don't begrudge folks making money flipping boats and agree that thebob.com plays an important role in the market being a reputable seller of quality used stuff.

Re: For Sale! Mohawk Probe 12 and Probe 12II
Again, I found it disingenuous that he is acting like a company. I think it's a small enough community that flipping boats is a noteworthy practice. We are generally a pretty helpful bunch around here, and Torpedo, Speleorover and others, might have been happy to deliver a boat to THEBOB.com for no charge, but he used PM's to get them both, and then, on CBOATs, whined about spending 10 hour days and lots of gas money to pick them up. Now, he didn't post the boat back here because he KNOWS he didn't add $200 dollars worth of value to it.
A flipper is a business person. People shouldn't be lead to believe they are dealing with a private party if they aren't. People SHOULD know if the boat they are getting is being flipped.

First thing, this is a society where making a buck here and there is the way business is done. I am ok with that.
Second thing, this is also a society where
"buyer / seller, beware!" I am ok with that as well.
Now comes the however part.
The ACC Msg board feels to me more like a community of friends than a version of ebay. Granted the community sometimes gets into heated arguments but my experience is we get past the flames and move on as a community. One of the many Msg Board benefits is the chance to recycle gear at usually reasonable prices between area boaters. Good deals move fast, not so good deals take longer or go away. Over the years I have done my share of buying and selling used gear on this msg board. Both sides have worked well for me and others as well is my guess.
I think it is perfectly legal to buy something and then quickly sell it for a nice profit.
Maybe I am getting a lot more mellowed out in my retirement, but the deal mentioned in this thread just does not feel right to me IE it may be legal but seems to not be what this group is about, at least in my opinion.
Flame away!!

Re: For Sale! Mohawk Probe 12 and Probe 12II
Questions:
Is it "ethical" to purchase 2 canoes with the intention of keeping & using one of the canoes, and selling the other canoe to offset the cost of the "keeper", and the travel expenses associated will picking up the canoes? That was my intention.
Is it ethical to use PMs to purchase a canoe, or should all negotiations between the buyers & the sellers be a matter of public record? As far as I am able to discern; the vast majority of canoe/kayak deals on paddling websites are handled through PMs.
Trying to sell a canoe on the same website where it was purchased is not using common sense. Virtually everyone on that website has already seen the boat, knows the asking price, and in many cases (this one included) have already made offers for the boat/boats (using PMs).
Profit on a boat flip is what you end up with in your pocket, after you have paid for the boat, and all expenses associated with obtaining that boat. Your time is basically a write off. Nobody is going to get rich flipping boats; unless they are dealing in very high volume.
Is selling a used boat for 60% of the new cost of the same boat an acceptable starting point? Many use that % as a starting price. Is that fair? In this case, 60% of the new cost of the boat in question, fully outfitted, is approximately $810.00. My asking price could probably have been negotiated down to the 60% price.
Another nefarious deal: A Whitesell Piranha which I purchased in May of this year for $400.00 is posted on this website. Asking price: $600.00.
I replaced mouse chewed lace kit, and lace kit center strap. I added painters to the canoe, and replaced leaking flotation bags with good bags. I did a round trip of over 350 miles on my time; gas expense was about $57.00. Boat too long for my needs; trying to "flip it". Doesn't take a genius to figure out what my profit might be if it sold.
BOB
P.S. Rather than expend more of my time & energy defending myself; I have decided to remove both the Probe 12 II, and the Whitesell Piranha(no association whatsoever to the Probe) from being offered for sale.
At some point in time, defending yourself can become a parody of the character Don Quixote, tilting against windmills. An excercise in futility.
