Edgar,
When we were visiting the other day about your upcoming trip, I meant to mention Holmes Ck. in Vernon, Fl. not too far from Destin.
As a kid, I used to swim in Holmes Ck. on the way back from a day at our beach house, it's clear, cold, spring-fed.
Holmes Ck, and others in the Panhandle of Fl. feature canoe/paddling trails. You can Google several good sites featuring maps and descriptions.
Have fun!

ocean+waves=surfing or go farther east and check out the black water rivers and swamps or mangroves. Charter a boat at destin and go fishing.

Re: Kayaking in the Destin FL area
I don't know what kind of water you're looking for, but there are a number of rivers and creeks in the area. One of my favorites is Turkey Cr. on Eglin AFB; clear, fast, narrow, twisty and beautiful. You have to get a permit (cheap) because it's a working base, and you have to watch a mandatory vid on what to do if you find unexploded ordinances  , but it's well worth it. Boiling Creek is another in the same area. The Blackwater River, Juniper Cr. Sweetwater Cr, Coldwater Cr are all in the same area. All of these are class I-I+, but beautiful!!! I don't know if you are self shuttling or not, there are some outfitters in the area. When I went I hooked up with a local paddling group. Northwest Fla. Canoe and Kayak, or some such. I met some great folks from MI that I still paddled with. Have a great time!

Thanks, I will look all these up. I'm afraid since we are only taking one kayak and there are four of us I probably won't do much more than scouting for another trip.
