The Dutch Oven Cook-off Is ON For Revdezvous
Re: The Dutch Oven Cook-off Is ON For Revdezvous
The two categories are WINNERS and LOSERS! :)
Actually, I think they are Main Dish, Dessert, and Overall Winner. Depends on what Crane decides.

So this is not like kid soccer where we all get a trophy for showing up, building a fire, and burning something resembling food in a large metal thingy?

Depends on number of entries and number of prizes!Tim Eubanks wrote:So this is not like kid soccer where we all get a trophy for showing up, building a fire, and burning something resembling food in a large metal thingy?

I may have mispoken: I entered the Ozark Society's cook off last fall. there were 3 participants and 3 categories
I made a vegetable dish and one of the judges did not eat vegetables (?). Go figure. My dish was called "okra mess": a tasty conglomeration of late summer garden fare with two cans of Rotel with cornbread cooked on top.
Do we get extra style points for making the highest DO tower?

If I was competing, this would be like shooting fish in a barrel!!Tim Eubanks wrote:I may have mispoken: I entered the Ozark Society's cook off last fall. there were 3 participants and 3 categories

Judging is unpredictable, be suspicious if T's son, Yoshi, is on the panel. Lots of bribery goes on before the final judging since the judges are announced before the competition. Heck, I had my mom on the judging panel and didn't win one year because of him.
Or at least that was the story my mom gave me. Think Dave Reid was the other one. Go figure.

Is "over-smugness" one of the deadly sins? (if you believe in that stuff) or at a minimum negative karma?
I have to admit, Roger, you've been nothing but a positive influence in my OC1 quest. It appears that the magnanimity(is this a word?) ends at the takeout.
Maybe you'll need to be blindfolded and muzzled and your right arm tied behind your back to make this a fair fight. If so, I'm all over it.

Naw, this is just the smack talk. Actually, I taking a pass on the event this year to allow some new wieners, er, winners!!Tim Eubanks wrote:Is "over-smugness" one of the deadly sins? (if you believe in that stuff) or at a minimum negative karma?

Promise, that was my last one!
PS: As for your OC1 quest, glad to be of any help and you're welcome. :)

Rules? We don't need no... well, okay... a few...
Two (2) catagories: Entre' & Dessert
Each Judge scores up to 100 points for each entry at their sole discretion. This means that THEY CAN SCORE ON TASTE, LOOKS, SUGAR CONTENT, ALCOHOL CONTENT, OR ANYTHING ELSE... IT'S UP TO THEM!
Judges are selected in the sole discretion of the Organizer (Meeeee!).
In case of a tie score in any catagory or on Grand Champion, the Organizer (Meeeeeeeee!) breaks the tie at his sole discretion.
All entries must be cooked on-site. (Pre-assembly of ingredients off-site is permissible.)
Contestants may enter one or more dish in either or both catagories. FOR EACH DISH, THEY MUST PROVIDE AT LEAST FIVE (5) PORTIONS FOR JUDGING, including plates or bowls for serving each portion to the Judges and utinsils for the Judges to use in sampling each dish.
Contestants must provide their own charcoal, lighter, starter, and tools. All contestants must have an aluminum container to start coals in and in which to cook. Our goal is to leave no trace behind when the event is over!!
All contestants are urged to cook with a goal of having substantial portions left over to be shared at the community dinner...
That's the rules!! The Organizer reserves the right to parse rules or make new ones to fit the needs of the event... but not many... so, don't push it!

Not to step on Obi-Wan-Cran-obis organizational toes...as I don't know if this has been posted. But we would love for the Dutch Oven cookoff to coincide with the potluck this year if at all possible. Meaning that the judges will get just a small taste for judging purposes, then all the ovens or serving dishes moved to Potluck area, so all can enjoy the mastery that all the Dutch Oven Gurus put forth!
