Remmel to Rockport trips for July 2, 3, 4

Post by Cowper » Fri Jul 01, 2011 8:12 am

OK, I'm stuck with being on call, so out-of-state and downriver trips are off my can-do list this weekend.

But I might be able to drive a shuttle (also known as karma collecting) and play some at the ledge this weekend.

How many folks are up for a downriver on
Sat, July 2
Sun, July 3
and/or
Mon, July 4

???

I recommend those interested in a downriver meet at the Rockport Ledge at 11 AM to arrange shuttles, try to be at the put-in just below Remmel no later than 11:45, so any who haven't seen the water come up can experience that.

Discuss among yourselves...

Newbies are always welcome. This float is an easy, family friendly float.

Put me down for a slot on Sunday. I called DeBo this evening as I wanted to hear from "a reliable source" if there was a way AROUND the ledge. I have seen Edgar's pictures of Cowper's idea of FUN and I ain't goin there. You hear me Chadbourn :D :D :D Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones and spending time on the water together. Marlo and Jim, hope to see you there also.

We usually meet at the whitewater park, consolidate boats and run shuttle up to the dam. I think it's about a 6 mile trip.

(Take out is at the WW park in Malvern (Rockport). You go thru the front of the Wal-Mart parking lot (turn by the Wendy's) to to get there. Bear to the right and turn left on South River Creek Dr. turn right when it T's into Riverview Rd. Go under bridge. WW park is ahead on left.
OR
Meet near boat ramp (take out) at N34.3942 W92.8412 Put in for those doing the downstream float, put in is at N34.4270 W92.8908
)

Clan Crawford will have to miss Sat.'s trip. Fuel pump went out on the XTerra. I would like to kiss the individual who thought to put an access panel under the rear seat.

So who can guess what I'm doing tomorrow instead of paddling?

Got family obligations Sun. Maybe we can make it Mon. if anyone's going.

Mikki,

Looking forward to seeing you. Going over the ledge is kind of like the last wave at Saddler, only you get a straight shot at it, don't have to come down a long rapid and around a corner, so really it is easier (as long as you don't intentionally aim for the meat of one of the holes).

In your pungo, you could choose one of the green tongues. In your inflatable, you should aim for the meat of the hole!

The "where" part was answered above. The float is about 5 miles long; takes 2 to 3 hours at a lazy pace.

I'm game for a remmel to ledge float on sunday iffin someone has a spare boat and gear that they can loan me. I'll probably be hitching a ride with Cowper as well on sunday, since I t-boned a girl who ran red last night and my rig is pretty much out of commission, but that doesn't mean that I can't try to have a fun float on sunday. PM me or call at 5oh1 five5one three66two.

Jon,
I will be bringing a 12' sea eagle inflatable and a 10' pungo. Not sure which I'll use yet but you are welcome to borrow either one of them Sunday.
