River Valley Chapter - Meeting/POOL PARTY
ACC Members,
Did somebody say POOL PARTY?!?! The Arkansas Canoe Club – River Valley Chapter June/July Meeting will take place on June 28th at 6:30PM. The meeting is being graciously hosted by Dr. Steve & Pam Yaney at their residence, 8601 Canopy Oaks Drive in Fort Smith, Arkansas on Tuesday, June 28th at 6:30 p.m.
Pam Yaney is cooking up some delicious barbecue and there will also hamburgers available from the chapter. If you would like a vegetarian meal please email Dave Thomas at dthomas@mohawkcanoes.com. The Yaney’s are also providing members with cold watermelon for dessert. However, be sure and save your seeds because afterwards we’re going to have a seed spitting contest. In addition to all the wonderful food the Yaney’s and ACC-RV are providing, if you would like to bring a side, beverage, and/or dessert to share with your fellow members, please feel free to do so. Also, be sure to bring your swimsuit if you would like to go for a dip in the pool. The club will be providing cold non-alcoholic canned beverages. Adult beverages are welcome on a B.Y.O.A.B. (Bring-Your-Own-Adult-Beverages) basis. There will representatives from several local outdoor outfitters on hand to give us the latest scoop on products and services they offer and talk about exclusive ACC discounts. Mohawk Canoe Co. is donating a new Odyssey 14 to the ACC. It will be presented to Sean Curtis and will be utilized for official ACA Swift Water Rescue instruction.
Special guests include:
Representative(s) from No Limits Cycling and Outdoors
Topics include:
• ACC – RV Chapter Stickers & T-shirts
• Mohawk Canoe Co. Donates New Pin Boat to ACC
• ACC Rendezvous – Chapter SWR Teams
• Lee Creek Clean-Up
• Arkansas River National Clean-Up
On Saturday, July the 9th Lake Dardanelle State Park is providing an opportunity on National River Cleanup Day for people to come together to make a big impact. Registration for the cleanup will start at 8 a.m. at the visitor center with the cleanup ending around 1 p.m. Please remember to wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty and wet. Just a few hours can make a big difference. If you would like to volunteer please contact Elizabeth Drake at 479-890-7479.
Please email any questions or concerns to Dave Thomas at dthomas@mohawkcanoes.com. I hope to see you at the meeting!

Re: River Valley Chapter - Meeting/POOL PARTY
Rules of Watermelon Seed Spitting:
1. Do not go outside the boundaries. If you do, you are disqualified. Some spitways are at least 15 feet wide.
2. Stand behind the starting line.
3. Spit 2 seeds. Each contestant will get 2 seeds, spitting each individually.
4. Measure the seed that goes the farthest, and record it. After the last contestant spits, whoever has the farthest seed on the spitway, wins. The final distance is calculated not by where the seed first lands, but where it ultimately stops.
Trivia: The current world record length for watermelon seed spitting is 69' 9&1/8" by Lee Wheells down in Luling, TX.
Humor:
A watermelon farmer was determined to scare off the local kids who went into his watermelon patch every night to eat their fill.
After some thought, he made a sign that said, “Warning! One of these watermelons has been injected with Poison!”
He smiled smugly as he watched the kids run off the next night without eating any of his melons.
A week later, the farmer was surveying his field. To his satisfaction, no watermelons were missing, but a sign next to his read:
NOW THERE ARE TWO!

You guys should work out a carpool and come to the River Valley's party. We welcome ACC members from any chapter to attend. Just be sure and drop me an email or RSVP on the Facebook event page so we'll be sure to have plenty of grub and chilly watermelon for everybody.

Re: River Valley Chapter - Meeting/POOL PARTY
I chatted with a few members at Blues Fest. It's shaping up to be another great meeting. Rocky is bringing a surprise dessert. Can’t wait to taste what she cooks up! If there are other members who would like to bring a side or dessert to the meeting/pool party, please feel free. The club is providing sides (potato chips, bbq beans, potato salad) to go along with the Yaney's bbq and watermelon, but a little more variety is always nice and always welcome.

Re: River Valley Chapter - Meeting/POOL PARTY
I want to give another BIG thank you to Dr. Steve and Pam Yaney for being such gracious people and hosting the June/July meeting. They have an awesome house and right near Fort Smith’s apex. I know where I’m going if “the flood” comes. Pam cooked up some DELICIOUS barbecue and beans for all to enjoy, and I do mean ENJOY. Mmmmmm! In addition, I would like to thank the other folks (you know who you are) that brought the other various treats to share. We have some wonderful people in our chapter! Congratulations to Rob Pollan who walked away as the Watermelon Seed Spitting Champion. His practice definitely paid off. All in all, it was a fantastic meeting/pool party and we couldn’t have done it without such great members, especially the Yaney’s. Thank you!
