Re: Broken Ty Warp
Same thing happened to me. I'd show you the pictures of the paddle, but it happened at the top of sunshine on the green, so those paddle pieces could be just about anywhere right now...
Bottom line- tywarp, never again. I could have had some serious injuries because essential equipment failed at a key moment.

Re: Broken Ty Warp
May your paddle shaft have been compromised by any hits in that area?
I paddled and still do with a fiberglass shaft "Sidewinder" of yesteryear for fifteen years and never had any issues. I paddled so long and hard with this particular paddle, that it is now roughly three inches shorter than when it was new. I like fiberglass shafts as they don't transmit as much shock from blade hits on the rocks.
I believe any paddle shaft of any make can be broken under the right type of strain. I've seen many broken shafts over the years, yet suffered no incidence myself. Something wrong with that picture or what?
Have you checked into what might be a warranty issue.
Take care of your paddle and it will take care of you!

Re: Broken Ty Warp
Memorial Day, Lower Piney
I'm staying close to Kid #2 b/c he's a weak paddler
Kid #1 (strong paddler) is screwing around not paying attention
and heads towards log on river right
I shoot quickly at the tree to get between it and him
I go under Log
No big deal, just roll up on opposite side right?
Wrong
Log Turns out to be a tree with a b'jillion branches shooting from log to creek bed
Paddle snags between branches and creek bottom
Roll impossible due to hung paddle
Paddle Still wont come lose
Kid in Peril, Forget Paddle, Pull Skirt, Head to surface
Kid fine, however Kid #2 now meandering obliviously towards tree
Save Kid #2 from tree
Clean up the most ridiculous "carnage" on Lower Piney, Ever...
Spend 10min getting paddle unhung from creek bottom
Paddle is, well, you see what it is... :/

Re: Broken Ty Warp
There's some talk on Boatertalk about those paddles. Consensus is that they were substandard and poorly made.

Re: Broken Ty Warp
After reading up, it seems that it's not the fact that it was a FG shaft paddle, but simply a flaw in the build of the Ty Warp.
I really did like this paddle alot, until of course it broke. If I was ever able to come across a new one for 100bucks again, I'd prob drop the dough just to have it as a decent/cheap spare.
I do recommend to anyone who paddles with one of these to follow the mod found on boatertalk
