Rec School Pictures

Post by MikkiW » Sun Jun 05, 2011 5:18 pm

Wanted to THANK all the members of ACC who invested so much time, effort and patience to introduce new and inexperienced members at Rec school to the joys of kayaking and canoeing. I am profoundly grateful for their efforts. They are highly experienced, endlessly patient and filled with the love of their sport. How lucky we are to have them as mentors.

I have included some pictures of Cowper's spectacular blow log fire. I did not get any pictures of us on the water as I do not own a waterproof camera and was hesitant to carry my Cannon in the boat during our trip down the Spring river. It is well that I did not as I was the first of our group to do a wet exit which the instructors were quick to praise as very well done when they stopped laughing. Thank you to Roman, Cowper, Chester and Terri for guiding our group safely and with great enjoyment though our lessons on the river. And by the way, surfing the wave is the BOMB!!!

Hope some other members have pictures they will post. Looking forward to seeing them.

Debbie happened to walk in front of the fire while I was taking a picture. The exposure makes it look like she is carrying the fire with her.

I had a great experience at Rec. School on the Spring River. Loved Saddler Falls! Many thanks to Jim & Marlo for their instructions, handbook & Sunday breakfast! Thanks to Brad too for his safety watch & encouragement. Learned a lot & had a lot of fun on the river with classmates, Felicia, Teresa, Ed & a lot of other great paddlers. SYOTR!

You're very welcome! I had a great time playing with y'all on the river!

Thanks to Larry, Frank, and Jordan for taking care of my bride. On the way home, she was already asking when we could go paddling again! :D

I can't imagine having a much better time!

In addition to the major organizers, and the students (for being there and wanting to learn), I'd like to say a word for the host of shuttle drivers and safety boaters. It was a huge relief to have enough safety boaters that if someone disappeared around the corner due to a missed eddy or, more commonly, a misunderstanding about WHICH eddy to catch, we could simply dispatch a chase boat and know every student still had safety back-up.

And of course, I need to thank Wildwood for loaning me the XP-10 - it was a perfect platform for rec school, and pretty darn fun to paddle.

Cowper,
Sure do wish I had a picture of you standing up like a California surfer riding the wave at Saddler falls on that red XP. :)

Jim and I had a great time at Rec School, as usual. There are a lot of people who do a great job that make that fun possible. Thanks to Liz and Michael for all their hard work organizing and ramrodding the whole thing. Thanks to all the instructors from whom we always learn something we didn't know or for show us things from a different viewpoint. Thanks to Brad for running safety and for helping in so many ways! Your calm, confident manner and your experience make you a great teacher. Thanks to Gary and Karla for coming and for all their help over the weekend including running shuttle despite Gary's being on the IR list. They are good friends and always willing to help! Thanks also to Cowper for his help in rescuing one of our student's boat at Saddler's Falls and for demonstrating how pros tow a boat and ferry across strong current. Most importantly, thanks to our great students! Without our students' cooperation and willingness to learn, it can be a long weekend. Thanks Teresa, Felicia, Sandy and Ed for being a great bunch of students who did well! It is always great to meet new people and to put faces to names you have heard or read about. Thanks everybody for a great weekend!!!

Clan Crawford would also like to add our thanks to the all the people who made this year's Rec. School possible. Hannah (a.k.a. 'twinkle toes' - I swear she gets a new nickname everytime I turn around) enjoyed being the only girl in her class. For some reason the boys were constantly offering to help her with her boat. Felicia had a great weekend as did I. Learned lots. Of couse if you follow Cowper downriver 2 days and you don't learn something.....

Great weekend thanks again to all who made it possible.
