ponca filled in with gravel, air space gauge is off (as in not a true reading) steel creek road has been repaired and is in good shape . kyle's had a deep sink hole up on the top, the lower hill is still bad (very rough ) erbie had a tree across it around the ford but park service has been working on it . i haven't seen any other spots down stream but most of the roads in ,have deep wash-outs . i'll try to up date before the weekend as what is open and what's still closed off and tickets have been handed out by the truck load. HAVE YOUR P.F.D.S HAVE A MESH TRASHBAG JUST HAVING A BAG TO PUT TRASH IN WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH. FLOATIES FOR CANNED DRINKS AND A LOCKABILE COOLER . SUNDAY LARGE GROUPS WERE TARGETED

Yeah, we came out from Kyles few years back after a pretty major storm. Got 1/2 way to the top and discovered that we had a flat.
With the the 4WD engaged the front right tire had pulled a sharp rock right thru the middle of the tire. Had a 2" cut right in the middle of the tread. No choice but to drive on it till we got to the highway.

Well we made it in my gfs little 3 series BMW with a Kayak on top! lol On the steepest part I did burn out a little in both cars. There just isn't much traction on it, no major pot holes though.

My ranger bounced its way up, her car drove smooth.

Quick question. Is the damaged gauge at Ponca reading high or low? I'm bringing a group of 12 paddlers up on Memorial day weekend and I want to make sure we can float Ponca to Kyle's. Thanks.

Unless we get a fair amount of rain a few days before Memorial Day Ponca wont' be floatable. It was at 25" below the low water bridge this a.m. and falling. Check this link before you come for "eyeball" level report.

Hmmm.....thanks for info. The Weather Channel is showing a good chance of rain for next week. I hope they're right. On the other hand, I've heard that rain makes camping at Kyle's Landing difficult. Would Steel Creek be a better spot if it rains?

Jason,

Steel Creek isn't as steep, or as long as the road into Kyle's, and is wider and a better road base, but still fairly steep. Ozark is even better, being short, well-graded, wide, etc, but does have a short-steep hill to start. I think I'd like to try either of these camp grounds before Kyle's if it looked like much rain. I'm only an ocassional floater up there though, and would defer to those who live in the area or float it more than I do :)

the gauge is not broken. gravel filled in at ponca put in from the flood. steel creek rd. is good .kyle's was 4 w-drive close to the hill part. the small front wheel drive cars have dug wheel hop bumps and you realy need a run at it to make it to the top.
