Online price is $799, which would make sense based on the pricing increment between the 147 and 160. Maybe it's on sale at your local d*ck's? Don't know. In any case, the 169 will be fine for you guys, but unless you have a burning desire to own a brand spanking new boat you'll be better off buying used. Lots of good deals out there on gently and/or barely used canoes.catdog6 wrote:Just found out at Dicks in Hot Springs they have the Guide 169 for $699. Does anyone have any experience with it? Apparently it's a d*ck's exclusive from Old Town. Does that mean it's not as good as a normal Old Town canoe? The specs look almost identical to the Discovery 169.

Apparently I do have to order it in the store to get the $699 deal.. I'm still checking Ebay and Craigslist. Haven't seen but one close enough to go look at. Thanks for the info.. Re: Need advice on buying first canoe
What part of the state are you in?
WHOOPS. Found the answer on a previous page. Look caring how old the canoe is when shopping used is generally kind of silly. I paid $800 for a canoe that is probably at least 15 years old because of what it was (tandem whitewater) and the condition it was in.
Paying $600 or $700 plus tax for something new vs. $400 for something even 20 years old is not necessarily the smart calculation. You've gotten at least two good leads here, it seems...
