Illinois River: A People River By Kenneth L. Smith

Does anyone have a copy of this book they would sell? I have found some paperback copies on Amazon, but wasn't sure if hard back copies existed first.

In general, I like local history about Oklahoma and Arkansas and try to gather books, periodicals, or other written material that are old/older publications, especially with pictures.

There are a lot of paperback copies out there, not sure about hardcover. If you are into novels that border on reallity, check out Donald Harrington's group of books about Stay More, newton county, ar. pretty sure Stay More is close to Murray, and represents an accurate although fictionalized acount of life in Newton County from before the Civil War thru the early 1900's. A lot of family's that are mentioned are still there as well as places that you can relate to. dale

Are you familiar with the website alibris.com? Good place to look for used books (hard or soft bound). Basically serves as a clearing house for thousands of used book sellers to properly catalog everything they've got and offer it for sale.

It looks like http://www.alibris.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; shows a shop with a hardcover copy. If you aren't successful getting that, you might contact Dickson Street Bookshop in Fayetteville: http://www.abebooks.com/dickson-street- ... /236228/sf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They don't have one on the shelf, but they can usually track down any used book.
I have a paperback version I've had since the late 70's.

I found a copy and am already running thru the pages. Its really a good resource. Has local knowledge and names of places along the river, along with maps. Its turned out to be far more interesting than I expected.

Thanks for the replies.
