Re: What have you been doing? (Summary of my last 2 weeks)
Monday 4-11 Beech
Friday 4-15 Richland 6" airspace
Saturday 4-16 Richland
Sunday 4-17 Mulberry family trip
Thursday 4-21 Baker and Tot 6 feet
Saturday 4-23 Tot 4 feet
Sunday 4-24 Beech high water
Monday 4-25 Beech med- high
Tuesday 4-26 Beech low
Wednesday 4-27 west cedar
Thursday 4-28 Richland 12" air space
I had several good days, the rumor that Scott was talking about is true Hunter made his first trip down Beech. Hunter had Shelby for a guide while I ran safety, I don't want people to think that Beech is a easy creek because a 11 year old boy ran it. Hunter has had 20 plus runs on upper richland, and he runs all the hard lines and sneaks nothing. Beech creek is very demanding the four days that I have been on it this year it has punished at least one person every trip. If you are not prepared for a solid run that keeps coming at you for 7 miles don't hike down into this creek because you will not enjoy your day.

It might help him if you post some video of some of the harder drops and he could decide

Smile, summer run-off is coming!!!

Refering to the drop that only Joe and Noel ran. Joe repelled/climbed down and removes a limb. 10'er, boof, bounce off small shelf, wall check, shoot gap, avoid pin rock. They ran pretty clean lines on a drop I just did not see a line on.

I think you seal launched back in over by the right bank.

Re: What have you been doing? (Summary of my last 2 weeks)
As an unofficial historian on Beech Creek lore I am fairly certain Nick Hobbs holds the record for consecutive back-to-back days running this creek. I believe a few others have gotten 2 days back-to-back but I know of no one else with 3 consecutive. It could be a long time before someone else has a chance to do this.NickHobbs wrote: Sunday 4-24 Beach high water
Monday 4-25 Beach med- high
Tuesday 4-26 Beach low
And to boot - he most definitely holds the record of most runs in a single season with that 4th run earlier in the month.

Thanks Jim glad you like the film. We had an excellent group. I was definitely the weakest of the bunch as the other guys had 4 or 5 days already under their belts. I felt very safe.Jim Krueger wrote:Shelby,
I certainly enjoyed your film! You guys definately have good skill&composure! I'm just sure I would have had 'that frightened apperance' :)

Re: What have you been doing? (Summary of my last 2 weeks)
Wow, what a time to schedule a boating trip out of state, only to have the trip fall apart.
April started off with a couple rains to finally put some water in the creeks. Got a couple runs on Richland and one on Beech before last weekend. This past week was one for the record books. We've had bigger rains (as in higher peak flows) but I can't remember a prolonged rain like this one. Beech Creek, which is lucky to run once or twice in an average year, was boatable for 5 days in a row.
The past week included:
Fun Friday on the sunny Cossatot at 5-ft.
Surprise Saturday on Osage Creek after initial let down that the overnight rains only brought Richland to 2.9
Super Sunday on Beech Creek - Started with a med level, ended with a super high level.
Manky Monday on Possum Trot Hollow - First Descent of which I supported with safety and filming. Paddled some, but wasn't feeling 100% to tackle the main drops myself. Props to the others who did. The main drops are in a .6 mile section dropping 250 feet for a 420 fpm equivalent. Within that, a quarter mile section drops 160 feet for a 620 fpm equivalent.
2-fer Tuesday with runs on Beech and EFLB
Whooped Wednesday with a run on Bobtail and Lower Richland. Bobtail flashed in the lower gorge and let to a couple workings
in the Slot.
Thankful Thursday on Richland. The sun came out, Sara swapped her shuttle driving seat for a shredder ride and a lost boat and paddle were recovered.
Fantastic Friday on Richland. Another great sunny day on the jewel of the Ozarks.
A big thanks to Sara Roberts to driving shuttle to make most of this possible, especially the double runs and the Bobtail run! Mark, make sure she gets a trip to the beach soon!
Updated: Rest day on Saturday, but back at it for Slide Sunday on Welcome Hill Creek, Stone Gate Branch slide and Galla Creek.

Manic Monday - after work park and huck session on Fall Creek Falls (Lake Catherine)
