West Cedar / Lee Creek Tuesday afternoon

Post by iYak » Tue Apr 26, 2011 12:51 pm

We are leaving Fort Smith around 1:45, heading to West Cedar Creek first. We may get a run on Lee Creek afterward.

Holler if you're interested in going.

We paddled West Cedar Creek this evening (Tuesday) at a nice level . On the second lap, a big storm rolled in with lots of lightning so we hightailed it down to the takeout. While it was pouring rain with lightning all around, we couldn't bother taking off our gear so we just jumped in my truck wet as dogs. It was just in time, because it started to hail shortly after - along with a lot more rain. As I traveled from Cedar Creek to Van Buren, every creek and drainage was in full-on flood.

Cedar should be at a good level again on Wednesday :D

My sincere condolences to all the road crews and locals that were out there working today to repair the damage to their property, roads ands bridges, only to have it all washed away again.

I am planning on floating again tomorrow on either West Cedar or Lee Creek around 5:15pm.

Justin, if you have never ran West cedar, you need to go run it. It is full on play boating.

I found a nice water bottle at the putin for W Cedar yesterday. Let me know if it's yours.

Was glad I bailed on the second loop as the weather got really big on my way back to town. Have some minor hail damage this morning. Had to pull over North of Van Buren and parked next to a building to try to hide!

Great day , got a little scary when the storms came in. In hindsight, I'm glad I went the second lap. I got no hail damage and my wife got some minor damage like Dave said. She was on the north side of Van Buren.
Nice to meet some more paddlers as well as paddling with some old friends!

I was headed South and flipped on Frantic Fred.

He was all over the radar reporting mezocyclonic-thundersnow. naders, hook echos, rotation.....with the most menacing musical accompaniment I have ever heard!

After peeing myself I pulled off the road next to a building that partially blocked the hail!

Called Rob to make sure they got off the creek and if he had called home to report in. Answer was yes to both questions, hail let up and I drove home!

Have fun if you get back out there today. I've got to teach class tonight. :x

Good level today on West Cedar, it was a nice level with lots of surfing.

It was a little higher than initially reported...
