Kelty Noah

Post by Deuce » Wed Apr 13, 2011 12:31 pm

Anyone have thoughts good or bad on the Kelty Noah? Thinking about taking down a 12 for river trips. Seems like a great product at a great price, but I'd love to hear of anyone's experiences with one. My questions are:

1. Is that the right size for a GP shelter? I envision it as a cooking/dining/hanging out shelter in case of inclement weather while on the gravel bar. Would need to cover a stove and have room for 2-4 folks.
2. What poles would best be paired with it for that application? Would like to be able to stand underneath it.
3. Does the catenary cut result in a significant loss of usable space?

Please chime in if you can answer these questions or others I haven't considered. Thanks.

I have a 16. Like it fine. Fairly easy to set up. Just ordered their poles for it. have been using some poles from an old cabin tent I have which did not really fit. If they come in, I will use them this weekend.

Used it for extra tarp over tent, kitchen or just to make a shade on the gravel bar at water's edge. The mid sag and my 6 2 self have to compensate once in a while but fine when sitting. My back packer influenced friends gripe it is waayy too heavy but as you noted... price is ok. Ultra light stuff is kinda $$. Weight is not an issue in my truck bed or canoe.
You sure this is on the right channel?

My river conveyance will always be a raft or a canoe, so like you weight isn't as much of a concern. Do you think I'd be better served by the 16?

Have both 12 and 16. Started with 12, later got 16 after seeing Clif use his in place of rain fly at Rec. School last year. At park campsites the 12 is jsut right to cover picnic table area. Just keep in mind that the 16 (is very large) covers almost 78% more area than the 12 (256 SF vs. 144 SF). They need to make a 14.

Pretty sure it's last year's model, but I can't imagine that will matter to me. Here's the link in case anyone wants to indulge. http://www.sunnysports.com/prod/KLTNT16 ... 39712647-2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm stoked. Can't wait to see how it works on the Buffy.

Just as a precaution I would go ahead and spray it with a waterproofing treatment before you use it the first time.
