Buffy river, Rush to the end. How long?

Post by Clif » Tue Apr 05, 2011 11:19 am

Time is what I'm asking. I know several have done and do it from time to time. How many days is good?

Looking to do the last 2 sections I have not done this year, levels permitting. Then I can claim I have done all of it, from Ponca down and start over.. :) . I have some nibbles on others to go with. Just wanting to get opinions on the time frame. How long makes a good kick back float?

School kept us out of the Oz soc trip last year.
You sure this is on the right channel?

I would say three days would be a relaxing float. We went from Buffalo Point to Shipps Ferry in three days. The water level was very low, and I paddled pretty much the whole time. We only went probably two miles the first day before setting up camp because we didn't get on the river until 4pm. We were off the river early afternoon on the third day. If you go when the water is a little higher and get 3 full days, it should be a little more relaxing. I think our trip was around 38 miles. If you go from Rush, it should be closer to 30 unless you take out at Buffalo City. That would take off 6 miles also, but you have to worry about getting upstream.

Short answer: two days with minimal strokes; three days if fishing and serious kicking back is desired. Long answer: A buddy and I did it in a 14' raft in February. Level was four foots. Due to technical difficulties we weren't able splash the boat until 5:00 pm Saturday, so we rowed half a mile maybe, and camped. :beer: The next day we floated and fished for eight or so hours, only rowing when the wind threatened to push us back upstream. Day three we launched around 7:00 and were at the mouth by around 11:30. Here's a trip report if you have time and want to indulge in a chuckle at my expense. http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com/vie ... =5&t=17823" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nibble, nibble.

Clif,

Clan Crawford would love to go on this trip if all the necessary stars line up.

Make it three, Clif. And especially if you are taking the boys, which I'm sure you would.

Plenty of time to pfutz around, play, throw rocks. No worries if you have to camp a little early one day. I know you know what I mean.

Plus its kind of a humdinger of a shuttle!

I've never been below Rush and could be talked into a float trip. My weekends for the next 3 months are hit and miss, and then I'm supposed to have surgery, but it is a stretch I want to do, so I can say I've been there. Let me know when you go, and I will try.

Also want to do the HW 14 to HW 14 trip (77 Miles?) that Richard proposed last year.

hmmm.... look what i started. You guys email or pm me some days.. or days to stay away from, and let's see about a plan? last of june 29 or so thru July 9 is out for me. Church camp 6 - 9

If we did our shuttle and pitched in to have the last car brought back down by a commercial crew, it shouldn't cost us that much?

Aaron at Buffalo River Float Service delievered my Expedition safely to Riley's Landing for $60. I have no idea how that compares to what others charge, but his place is right across the highway from the road to Rush and he was a very nice and very helpful young man. He showed us a couple of points of interest and a place we might not want to camp unless we wanted the locals joining us . By the way, in case anyone's wondering the Expy will seat eight. Not that that's a hint or anything. :poke:

I use Aaron/Buffalo River Float Service for all my shuttles when I go there. Great bunch of guys, no hassle, reasonable prices.

Depending on when this is (sometime in May or after) I would go.
