Kyle's landing new parking
I just got our parking permit for kyle's and you private boaters won't like this at all . the park service has given outfitters ALL the parking except 2 spots at kyles landing . should be very interesting to say the least!

Just another reason to quit paddling on the Buffalo And who is going to pay for the damage to the state capital when the protests begin?

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
Bob,
Maybe you can clarify a bit for all of us. I haven't had the opportunity go to Kyle's in the last few years, but I remember a large camping/day use parking area that encircles the bath house. In addition, there is a small semi-circle drive right up to the river access that anyone could use to load or unload for a few moments, but I can't remember if there is/was also some all-day parking spots just back from there and associated with that area too. I just know that I've always pulled up to the loading zone to access the river, then parked back in the campsite parking area somewhere. What's the situation?
Best Regards

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
the semi-circle at the rivers edge, "the kyles take out area". will be almost all outfitter parking for trailers to load canoes and to haul out customers . in the past who ever got there could park anywere and load or unload . the new rules are private boater will have 2 parking spots to use and the 5 outfitters divide up the space along the wooden rail. with 2 trailers each. it's like this @ hasty . it's a trade off .outfitters can not put in at ponca on saturdays starting in may. they will all be putting in at steel creek. it's going to very interesting to see how it will work out!
Re: Kyle's landing new parking
sounds like it's business as usual. That's the way it has always worked, the Park Service is probably setting the stage for more heavy handed enforcement. It's the only thing they care about. Sorry for telling the truth.

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
PB, Would you please clarify? Before, as you said it was essentially a free for all loading up. Are you saying only two private vehicles will be allowed near the take out (wood fence) with some kind of lane system? We lug our raft up that ramp, it takes a little time to do so and get it on a trailer. Thanks rp

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
because in the past (you private boaters) could do what ever you wanted. and park anyway! ,at any spot along the rail at the take out. well that's all changed us, the(outfitters/livery) have the choice 5 parking spots along the rail at the take out to park two canoe trailers. and yes you private boaters only will have 2 yes 2 spots to load or unload boats. and in the drawing i saw it's right next to the trash cans and potty house away from the waters edge. if you walked up from the river along the path you would just keep on walking another 40 to 50 feet farther up towards that bathroom! behind that wooden rail. we the outfitters have been issued parking permits for our area. this means if you park in our way you will be issued a ticket!! for parking in that area. it's the same way at hasty take out. i haven't been down to kyle's to see. but soon signs will be posted. and I'm just giving you all the heads up about this change coming. more bad news!. because i believe that a wave of tickets for everything and anything are coming... the park service had some major budget cuts to the point that the whole park could shut down! the staff has been slashed! 90% of maintenance crews were laid-off ,the phone service at erbie and ozark is off .the mowing and weed eating ,all but shut down. road work has slowed to a stop. this is why steel and kyle's roads were closed off during the snow melt off. to save the roads from repeat grading . the park service is going to remove the trash cans in some of the more remote spots and ask YOU to take your trash with you and not leave it for the park to pick up! ........ oh it's a total cluster !

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
Thanks for the 'heads up' Bob. From past experiences taking-out at Kyles, I know it can get really crowded at the take-out on a weekend afternoon. I think one thing we private boaters can continue to do to lessen the loading time there is to stage all our boats and gear up hill to the grassy area (before) bringing a vehicle in to load. I think this is the most considerate thing to do when it's real busy there. :)

I'm sure the outfitters waiting for their people will be more than happy to get off their @$$es and help us lug our boats up the ramp and not even expect a tip.

Re: Kyle's landing new parking
I liked the Buffalo better back in the mid 70s when it wasn't regulated by the NPS though it has probably helped the river in the long run to be a national river.

Hey Greg
I'm not old enough to remember the good old days like you We've got to take all this with a bit of wisdom and admit that as much as we dislike johnny law and the park fairies that having that river as opposed to Lake Gilbert or whatever they were going to call it, is much better. Thank you Neil Compton and the Ozark Society
We're complaining about parking (not access) for crying out loud. Can we not walk 50 yards?
