How to access old NWS Rainfall estimates

Post by DanMo » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:10 am

I have a question and I am pretty sure that there is an easy answer, I just don't know it.

What I want to know is how to access the radar estimated precipitation for non current data. For example what if I wanted to view the radar estimated precipitation for March 19th for the Springfield Missouri radar. Nothing special about that date I just know it rained so there should be an image available.

As is if I don't get to view the data before the storm has passed out of the radars view it is erased and it doesn't show any estimated rainfall.

I hope this makes sense.

I tried to use the image retrieval tool on the nws site but quickly got confused.

According to The nws the radar code is sgf. The overlay I am interested in is NTP which is storm total precipitation.

Or if there is a better tool I should be using, I am all ears. I have found the radar estimates from the nws to be very accurate.

Thanks
Dan
