Re: pin at maytag
Log in works for me. Scary episode. We were upstream, saw Chuck making panically kind of signals, ran the left line of Maytag, and saw Marc swimming at the bottom. He had run the left line, got his bow on the boof rock , spun out and pinned stern downstream in the middle of the drop, with water running over his face, pinned backwardwards in his K1. He was able to do a sit up, and pull his skirt, got flushed and out. Maybe under for 10-15 seconds. I don't think that there is a feasible rescue situation that could have occurred. The only advice I can give is that running the left line at Maytag, go slow. If you run the holes above , slow down, bounce off ff the edges, and when gettin too the Boof Rock, make a quick decision wether to catch the river left eddy or run the left line(I'm not sure which is better). dale

What was the level and is that pin more likely when its low? I'm not remembering a "pin" rock.

From the sound of it, it's more likely that it was due to him being backwards, having little to no momentum, and effectively pitoning straight down off the drop into some unseen rock jumble sub-surface.. If I were to guess.Tim Eubanks wrote:What was the level and is that pin more likely when its low? I'm not remembering a "pin" rock.
That being said, sounds like being backwards enabled him to exit his boat easier once he got his spray-skirt un-done, which may very well have prevented a much worse situation, had he been facing forward...

Re: pin at maytag
Similar to my pin on Roadblock in that my torso was getting pushed back onto the back deck of the boat, and was underwater a similar length of time. Did the Big Sit-up (tore the hammy doing it) to get at the grab loop, and got shot out like a torpedo once I pulled.ARzach wrote: That being said, sounds like being backwards enabled him to exit his boat easier once he got his spray-skirt un-done, which may very well have prevented a much worse situation, had he been facing forward...
A pin in the other direction - getting pushed face-down onto the front deck - would have been, I think, "less comfortable" getting out...thinking bruised thighs, hyper-extended knees, and such. In a situation like this, you also get the reminder that any viable rescue/help from others had better be damn snappy.
Stating the obvious here, Marc...glad it wasn't get any more serious!
Let there be rain!

I just hope if I ever get pinned and can't pop the skirt and get out I will be able to think fast enough to go for my knife and cut myself out.

Tip: be sure you carry a blunt tip one sided knife so you do not cut yourself and bleed to death. It has happened.
