If glue or epoxy doesn't work
Do you have a poly boat that has a crack or puncture and need it water tight? Maybe you have tried all types of glues and epoxy’s but still leaks. A new boat could be very expensive. I have just finished school in Rhode Island for welding plastics. I may be able to stop those leaks forever. Shoot me a PM.

I was taught how to weld Polyethylene and Polypropylene. They will teach emphasis on all types of plastics you desire. Since skid plate usually adhere to Royalex boats I did not go that route thinking someone may patch a royalex boat with kevlar and epoxy strips. I am sure the procedure is not that much different and they do have the materials for welding Royalex.

After further research and asking questions with my instructor at the welding school. Royalex (ABS) is a thermoplastic and can be welded. All I would need is ABS rods. I can acquire those easily.

Royalex is more than just ABS plastic. It consists of vinyl outer layers and a foam core. All of these layers of plastic are vulcanized at Spartec to create a cross linking of the polmer chains. So, to effectively weld Royalex utilizing ABS rods you will want to remove the foam core and vinyl. Another down side to the cross linking is that after the process Royalex becomes unable to be recycled.

Forti Flash, Forti flash, forti flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beats everything else out there! Half the boats in the cherry creek race this year were patched with fortiflash( Lowes $20 for a huge role). After my boat suffered a six inch crack in the chine this summer I paddled over 30 class 5 runs in cali with a fortiflash patch( Bitchethane). Welds will not hold up to serious punishment, The key is drilling the ends, and layering a good patch from the inside!! You can always weld first, but fortiflash the inside so ur boat wont leak when the weld breaks! By the way same patch on the old nomad still 100% water tight, never even welded it!

My Riot Magnum has a crack all the way through the cockpit rim, barely started down hull. Best fix? Crack is where the thigh doohicky attaches to the rim with 3 screws.

I recommend using G-Flex epoxy. It is TOUGH stuff! Check out this video: http://www.westsystem.com/ss/g-flex-torture-demo/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
