Spirits Creek - Mountain Bike - Sunday / Monday Mulberry Sat

Post by iYak » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:37 am

We plan on floating the Mulberry on Saturday, then mountain biking Spirits Creek on Sunday and possibly Monday.

We hiked Spirits Creek a few weeks back and I noticed that the trail that goes along the creek would be great for mountain biking. Here is a map http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... 8&t=h&z=14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

I plan on starting at the top of the hill at point A, riding the road on the long downhill to the creek at point B, then riding the trail (not marked on map) along Spirits Creek to point C. It's going to be mostly downhill with some creek crossings (low water). Terrain is nice and smooth and fast in spots, and rocky in spots where you will have to cross the creek.

Here is a video of Spirits Creek: http://iyak.smugmug.com/Other/Nick/8117 ... uj8AT-A-LB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If anyone is interested in biking or hiking the creek, we would like some company and someone to run shuttle with. Don't worry about the stuck truck at the end of the video on Mineral Hill road (between point A and C), they have been logging in the hillsides and the road has been fully upgraded to accommodate the trucks. The area along the road looks awful from all the logging, but at least the road is in great shape.

My number is 47 9 Eight 06 2617

We'll be floating the Mulberry on Saturday if you want to join that too...

Great ideal. Rode it a couple years ago. I believe there are 5 or 6 creek crossings. Cool weather and wet feet could be a problem. Might be interested if weather hold off. I will be in touch, thanks.

I was planning on bringing an extra pair of socks, sounds like I should bring a couple of pair.

I've never biked it before. How was it?

We are planning on running Redding to Jamestown (across the river from Turner Bend). We are going to meet at Jamestown around 11:00 to set shuttle, then putin at Redding. Short run with lots of stops and lunch somewhere along the way.

Rob,

Ron and I biked it from bottom to top a couple of years back. I remember having to cross the creek at least 5 times. Also, seems like I remember that since the jeep trail basically runs right up the creek bed that the trail is pretty hard to ride a bike on. Lots of river rock to negotiate. Maybe running it downhill will be more pleasant.

Dave

PS: Matt, Grant and I may be joining you at TB today. Looking forward to a Poonawnie run!
