Arkansas River Float Trip

Post by Dave Thomas » Sat Feb 12, 2011 5:52 pm

There is a group of folks from the ACC-NorthWest and ACC-River Valley chapters meeting tomorrow at 1:30p.m. at the Harry E. Kelley-Riverfront Park in downtown Fort Smith. We will be paddling from the put-in, just down the road from Riverfront Park, to Fort Smith Park further down the Clayton Expressway. The float should take a leisurely 2 hours (approximately). Along the way, just north of the put-in we will veer off of the main flow and island hop until we pick back up with the main flow further downstream. The Arkansas River, with its sandy beach islands, rarely seen wildlife and many other beautiful features, is often overlooked by Arkansans’. Don’t let this trip float on by you. Take advantage of some wonderful fellowship on a spectacular river. Let's take advantage of the wonderful water resource, right under our noses! Everyone is invited and I hope to see everyone there!

Since it appears nothing local is going to come up tomorrow, I will be heading down from Fayetteville to join the float. I'm leaving around noon if you want a ride.

I'm happy to kick in some gas money for a seat.

Thanks,

Sounds good Paul. If anyone wants to join up and or share a ride, we will meet at Jim's Razorback Pizza on MLK @ Noon.

Sounds fun. I'd like to take my Approach on this one. Ryan, if you have room on top, that would be great, otherwise I can take my CRX and somebody else + boat, too.

Let me know if anyone needs a canoe to paddle for the trip. I have a few solo and tandem boats available, first come, first serve.

NOAA weather is predicting a clear and sunny day, with a high of 65 degress. It's gonna be a beautiful day on the water!

I had a great time paddling the Arkansas River today. It just comes naturally when paddling with such wonderful people. What a gorgeous day too. Thanks to everyone for attending and by doing so advocating a much needed water trail system on the Arkansas River. I did manage to snap off a few keeper photos. Below are a couple of links to view the trip photos. Enjoy!
