Happening Now Jenks OK 6:53 am Tuesday
Went to bed with dry pavement.
Got up at 6:30 am to let our little Auzzie Shepard out for a whiz break.
Opened the door to awesome winter scene.
Snow over my hiking boots. Wind blowing and snow out the yeng yang.
Have not seen anything like this since living in Park City Utah.
No car tracks on my street. First time I can remember the newspaper guy did not make it.
Police now reporting that officers at work are asked not go home and stay at the station. Many police cars stuck, as they are two wheel drive Dodge Challengers, big engines but not much use in this. KRMG.com is showing video of them driving around in their 4WD Jeep. They and the police say stay home. People are calling in from major highways to the radio news saying they are stuck and running out of gas asking for help.
If this holds together over NW Arkansas, brace yourselves.
Snow plows are stuck, drivers that were out last night have abandoned vehicles in the road and creating big problems. Officials are warning that if you get stuck you are on your own. And, the wind chill is past bone chilling to the killing stage now at minus 3 and going lower.
Radio sez it will blow wind and snow all day hopefully tapering off this evening.
I hope Fish and crew miss the snow if they are out searching for excitement. Plenty for me and the dog just getting out in the driveway!

Jeepers, for once living in Wisconsin (at least my part of it) is actually better than living there!

Christmas '09, when the weatherman said "blizzard," I laughed. Then went driving in it that night and became a believer.
This storm is the same or worse - much colder temps, more snow, and higher winds, plus the snow will be staying around much longer. Winds at 30-40 kts now, and projected to pick up to 40-50+ in the coming hours. Looking at the radar, looks like we have a few more hours of snow. I think we're officially at 9-12" in the Tulsa metro area now.
My New Year's resolution to run 6 days/week is going to get tested this week.

Randy, did you hear the roof on the Hard Rock Casino in Catoosa partially caved-in due to the weight of the snow?

Snow's over. Officially, 14" of snow for Tulsa, new record (old was 12.8" in '94). 19" in Owasso, north of Tulsa. Wind chills heading to -20 for the next few nights.
Gonna' OFF that groundhog if I see him tomorrow.

Dave,
Maybe you can snap a few pictures around your place when it's sunny tomorrow, we'd love to see them! Sounds like you all have had a day :)
Best Regards
Jim
P.S. After going out to feed and water the dogs, it feels pretty cold even here, I hope you all keep your power on and are warm tonight!

I can't remember ever seeing snow like this in Oklahoma.
We were so fortunate to not get ice with this and have major power outages like we have suffered before. Tulsa is buried and like a ghost town in most parts and reports of lots of abandon cars and with the snow not melting away anytime soon, it will just pile up and stay that way. Lots of streets in Tulsa are underconstruction and snow plows can't push it off anywhere.
Been watching news videos of police and ambulances getting stuck.

RJ, did a good job with his camera. I will get my kayaking camera out tomorrow and see if I can get a image or two. RJ's images are similar to things in my area as we are just a couple miles between homes.
We have power and are warm in our house
OK National Guard out getting people off the interstates.
All the major 4 lanes out of Tulsa are closed to traffic. Vehicles stuck and abandoned by the lucky ones.
The concern is there are people out there who are facing a long night in their cars.

For a live feed especially during "normal" drive times, look at
krmg.com
as they have a 4WD Jeep with live streaming video. As of 6am 2/2/11 they have plowed a lot of the city main streets but due to historic lows and minus 11 wind chill, the actual roads are just littered with abandoned vehicles.
