update to War Eagle gravel mining

Guess what? That's happening in any watershed regardless of size. Chances are that land use practices that were used on this property prior to Mr. Hawthorn's ownership likely are contributing to the problems today. Clear cutting timber to the edge of streams and rivers was and is not uncommon and, well, you know how it goes.

Mr. Hawthorne can contact the AG&FC about their Stream Team program and assistance to address these problems.

Lots of questions here though. What is the erosion rate comes to mind.

Exactly how critical was this or what? Edumication (sic) is the answer!

in addition to many other streams in the state are eroding around 6 ft per year in many places.

I agree with you roger that a lot of the problem is from previous riparian disturbances and a lot of the problem is now inherited by other land owners. Also that a lot of the problem is from previous watershed changes like clear cutting of the ozarks and A lot of the problem is from current watershed changes such as more impervious surfaces and less pervious.

The culmination is some f$%^&* u* rivers :shock: .

Too bad that there is so much mis-understanding and lack of education as roger has pointed out about how the river functions, why it is out of balance, and what is necessary to actually stop the erosion.

Soil and water conservation will never be cool enough catch much attention until the soil is like that of the middle east and the water is all tainted.

Wow... this is great.
I had noticed all the trucks and equipment have not returned.
I guess I should have been checking the papers more closely.

It's funny though to me that this guy claims he was just helping out a neighbor, but yet he had the presence of mind to bring in gravel sifting equipment and separate it all out and install a new cattle gate into the fencing so the trucks could get in and out and also put up " Trucks Turning" signs.
This is the same guy who owns the wood products company up the road on 74 I think.

Wish I had a subscription to the Demo-Zette so I could read the rest of this article.
