This last weekend, I attended a conference in Mountain View and ran into our former conservation chair Bill Saunders. We discussed the need for a cleanup on Cadron Creek sometime inthe near future. Well, on his way home Bill took it upon himself to do a little cleanup of his own, picking up three large bags of trash.
This is especially significant since Bill is over 80 now and has medical issues which make it difficult for him to walk. Now that's dedication!

A Boy Scout Troop in Greenbrier is asking for help in doing a Cadron Creek Cleanup.
Experienced canoers and those with a genuine interest in stream preservation
are needed..... to partner with a Scout... and/or just participate.
Date is Saturday Dec. 11

We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

I''ll keep my eye on levels and give this one a "yaker's yes". The recent rain primed several creeks (you could have briefly even scraped down Lower Richland today if you really, really wanted to), but Cadron did not completely refill the pools and there are still long stretches of rock where the shoals and rapids ought to be.Richard wrote:..... to partner with a Scout... and/or just participate.
If it gets up enough to shorten the drags (and Richland still doesn't run), I'll bring a solo boat and help. I'll wait a bit to contact the troop leader, as the potential for sufficient water is still highly in doubt.
Richard, you might want to give the troop leader a "heads up", the gate at the new access has now been locked by the Gas Company; it will be necessary to make prior key arrangements with the landowner to gain access to the put in.

I had the opportunity to meet Bill at said conference and was lucky enough to visit a little bit with him.
Before we got the opportunity speak, I had been wondering to myself who is this man that is continually asking good and tough questions about almost all water subjects presented.
A very engaging person and here's to him
How did the scout cleanup go?

How did the scout cleanup go?

I don't know if that happended or not; I ended up stuck at work all weekend. Either Sunday night or Monday night, DeBo and I drove up and found there was actually a trickle of running water at Cadron, far from enough for a good float, but at least the pools have refilled.Half Ton wrote:How did the scout cleanup go?

Weather conditions were far from good on Saturday; and much dragging would have probably been required if they went.Half Ton wrote:How did the scout cleanup go?
