Reshaping a Royalex Canoe

Post by torpedo » Fri Nov 26, 2010 10:25 am

I have a 16ft Buffalo that was stored on it's side for 5 months and the hull is now semi flat on that side. How can I correct this? Will it eventually expand with time and heat? Suggestions?

Thanks-

Usually, a heat gun and steady pressure, or a rubber mallet will do the trick, although occasionally acouple new thwarts have to added. Was the boat stored outdoors?, How old a boat, and was there any weight on the boat while stored ? There could possibly be some structural damage to the ABS layer that might need repair, similar to an oilcanned bottom of the boat. If you live anywhere close, I'll be glad to take a look. dale

The boat was stored outdoors. I'm not exactly sure how old it is. There wasn't any weight on top of the canoe. I'm hoping that with time and heat it will expand back out to it's original form. I'm up here in Fayetteville, but thanks a lot for the feedback and the offer to look at it.
