Re: little maumelle
Put in at the boat ramp, located at the East end of the Pinnacle Mountain parking area.
n34.83863 w92.49116
Take out?
Option 1 - paddle downstream as far as you care, turn around and return to your starting point. This is what I would suggest unless you are meeting others and already have two or more vehicles coming.
Option 2 - Take out at a private boat ramp on Burnett Road, a short spur roand off Pinnacle Valley Road. Don't forget to drop $5 in the owner's fee box located near the top of the ramp.
N34.81483 W92.4403
For complete directions, cut and paste those coordinates into the "search maps" block at http://www.maps.google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, then hit the "get directions" link, and enter where you're starting from.
Is it floatable now? For you, yes! You will have to drag your boat over two shoals; be prepared to wade in water ranging from 1 or two inches deep to maybe slightly over your ankles. As you travel downstream, you'll also come to a place that appears to be blocked by a large down tree. Look for the tunnel passage that somebody has cut on the left side.
I highly recommend going downstream at least a mile or two; you'll find some really good views with cypress trees in the foreground, and Pinnacle mountain rising in the background. With your skills, I'm sure you'll be able to capture this and share with others!
My apologies to Lupe for "stealing her thunder" on this post. She deserves the credit for reminding several of us of this sometimes forgotten local paddling opportunity. ( I know she's getting ready for a trip right now, and may not have the time to respond.)

Re: little maumelle
If you are going to shuttle to the ramp on Burnett road, please note that they have changed the name of this short road to "Sweetwater". The road is easy to find, immediate right after you cross the railroad tracks on Pinnacle Valley road off Cantrell/hwy 10. The float from Pinnacle mountain is a little over 4 miles. Whether or not you shuttle, it would be good to look at a satelite image. There are two branches off the Little Maumelle from Pinnacle Mountain to the Burnett ramp. Both are about a mile long and could be used if you want to extend your exploration a little. The gps coordinates for the first branch from Pinnacle Mountain is the following:
N34.82328 W92.46658
The second branch entrance close to Burnett ramp gps coordinates are:
N34.81701 W92.45268
Have fun. I would join you but I already have commitments.

Hi Dan,
I'm a new fan of yours and was thinking about you while I watched an osprey fishing on the lower section of the Little Maumelle a couple of weekends ago . I don't know how you get the shots you do, but they are terrific! If you don't mind another boat, I'd love to join you. If you want to set a shuttle give me a call at 501-680-4036. Otherwise, I'll hope to see you at the Pinnacle ramp at 8:30.
Carl

Re: little maumelle
I was anticipating a great day and I was not disappointed. This float was totaly different than anything I have done and it was obvious to me that I need new equipment so I can do it more.
Thanks to Carl for all his help along with Edgar and the Moose.
Saw a lot of ducks that kept there distance and woodpeckers were numerous
The fall colors added to this place along with Pinacle mt.
Here are a few images I captured;

Re: little maumelle
Minna,
You're right, it was very nice. The day sure started off quite cool and foggy, when we put in, there were so many nice scenes as we worked on downstream,a few low spots w/beaver dam, etc., however the sun came out pretty good about the time we met the duck-hunters and were approaching the best Cypress groves, about 2 miles into the trip. I hope to go again sometime! The total trip is about 4 1/2miles.
Dan, and the other photographers/ fellow-paddlers along have some good shots today.
Best Regards
Jim
