Jeep Windows Lost At Lee Creek Cleanup???

Post by Half Ton » Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:23 am

An e-mail message from a lee creek cleanup passer by.....

Hi, This may seem a strange story but it is true. My wife and I went jeep riding today and left our jeep windows (black) under an old mattress about 2 mi from the low water lee creek bridge for a couple of hours while we rode in the woods.. Your very efficient volunteers picked up the mattress and the jeep windows. We searched the dumpster at the horse camp to no avail. We found the mattress but no jeep windows. If possible, would you please keep a lookout for any word concerning our windows. I figure they're worth about $250 and will pay a reward.

If anyone has any info, I will gladly pass along the number so you can collect a reward.

Thanks to all who came out!! Wrap up report soon to come.

I was the one who found that dump sight. I had already moved a big hunk of it to the side of the road, including the jeep doors, before a whole crew happened by and cleaned up the rest of the mess. I believe they left the pile by the road for the rangers to pick up since Dennis's truck was pretty much full. I saw some park rangers pull up as we were doing the door prizes with a tandem axle trailer. If they picked the doors up, and they haven't dumped the trailer yet, they may still have them somewhere. I hate that this happened. The doors did look out of place in that trash pile but it didn't occur to me that they were stashed there on purpose. I didn't know what to do but just leave them by the road.

Sorry, and I hope you find the doors!

We saw them too! The location was at N35.74187 W94.29812, within a few feet of the main road. This is 2.9 miles down the road from the check-in station. If the mattress was found, and the doors were not right there with them, then somebody recognized them as worth separating out from the rest of the trash. It could be that they were left there and NOT picked up, OR, the rangers may have taken them and be waiting for someone to claim. Sorry, didn't see exactly which agency they were with, so if "rangers" isn't the right teminology, then I apologize to what ever type of official they were.

I sort of assume the original owners would have spotted them if they had been anywhere near where originally left, so I think figuring out who was driving the truck pulling the trailer is the best bet.

Lesson Learned:

Old matress in the woods= bad storage place for jeep windows....

Chalk this one up as natural selection.

Awesome! I wish I had had the presence of mind to seperate them out myself and get them to the horse camp. I had actually forgotten about them by the time we cleaned up the rest of the mess. I was thinking about winning some Chacos!
