Forest Service assessment and access plan for Mulberry

I see your point Howard and Spanke. Big Eddy is a sweet place to camp by the water, get rowdy, and shoot pistolas in the air. Every year it gets a little harder to find places that allow us to exercise the second amendment.
They should propose a third access point option that's further downstream so folks could make a float trip from Turner Bend on down.

No. The Byrd's Cabin is a little over 1.5 mile downstream from Turner Bend...isn't that right? So maybe even further down from that. What would be the opposition to an access point at Cains Bluff? I'd sure like some gravel put on the road into there!

Oh a take-out downstream if you put in at turner bend. Gotcha, I thought you meant another access point to take the load off turner bend. In this case, Cambells Cemetery is downstream, and can act as a takeout.

After giving this request for input some serious consideration I'm going to write the Forest Service and suggest they pursue the first option with the access closest to Hwy 23.

Probably one of the most widely used sections of the river is the Redding to Turner Bend section. There are two options for taking out at Turner Bend, one is at Turner Bend on river left and the other is on river right at what is referred to locally as Jamestown, I believe. Both are on private property and access availability is subject to the owner's approval.

An additional public access on river right at Hwy 23 would be, IMO, the most used of the two options. The section from Hwy 23 to Big Eddy is not that great and is now clogged with trees and can be technical for beginners.

I'm writing to suggest the FS pursue the first option with the day use area on river right at Hwy 23 and encourage others to give it some thought and also select an option and voice their interest to the FS.

Dave - I agree with your assessment completely and have mailed my comments to the FS.

I don't believe that the Forest Service is going to add a third option to the list so back to the two options of 'Big Eddy' and the 'small game area'. My original vote was for Big Eddy. However after MUCH thought and after waiting to see if another option would be added, I'll be calling the Forest Service tomorrow with my vote/comment for the new access point to be placed at the small game area which is closer to the Hwy. 23 bridge than Big Eddy.
