Fixing Gaskets

Post by A Savage spanke » Mon Aug 30, 2010 4:50 pm

Is there anyone with much expertise on the subject? Or anyboady I can just pay to do it well? I need three gaskets replaced, two wrist gaskets on a dry top, and one latex bootie on a drysuit. I have all three new gaskets to be put on, I was just wanting to get some information first. Is this something easy to do by yourself, or should I let someone who knows what they are doing handle it? Thanks

FYI - Tim Muse did the neck replacement on my drysuit - great job and local and was worth the $ to me to have someone do it. He'd be great source for info or for him to do it and have the peace of mind!

I will be another to sing of Tim Muse's expertise in replacing neck gaskets. He did two of my suits and they are great.

Thanks again Tim.

put those johnson county skills to work spanke.

JC Dry suit repair instruction.

Use duct tape.... Lots of it.

super glue.... get it all over everything and make sure you glue the gaskets to the table at least once.

Spray paint.... Try to make the duct tape the same color as the booties.

Claps.... Clap the duct tape to the super glue after you put it on the gaskets and leave it there for a day or two.

Going out west has made you soft.

It really is pretty easy! You just need to take your time and get everything ready, then follow instructions carefully.
The first few times you do it takes quite a bit of time and patience, but you get a little faster after several.
The main thing here is patience and following instructions.
If you can follow instuctions well it should be no problem.
You spend more time getting all the stuff together to do the job than actually doing it!

Materials needed:
Duct Tape
Glass Jars just big enough to stretch gasket you are replaceing slightly
Hammer
LOTS of aqua seal

Cover jar with duct tape. Place gasket overjar and into sleeve or neck that you need to replace. Line it up and goop on the aqua seal all around and under. Wait a day or two. Smash jar with hammer.

I went ahead and replaced my wrist gaskets myself. It looks pretty good to be honest. Depending on how well it holds up will decide whether I do my drysuit bootie, or someone else does
