river/creek book published by the state

Post by JeffT » Tue Aug 17, 2010 10:18 pm

I used to have a paperback book. It was about the size of a Reader's Digest and the pages were made from newspaper type paper. Lots of info on floatable creeks and rivers in AR. I do remember it was free for the asking.
How do I get another one? What was the title?

I believe you are thinking of the Arkansas Adventure Guide. You can order online at http://www.arkansas.com/helpful-info/free-vacation-kit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or pick it up at a tourist information center.

Last I looked.. lots of that was seriously vague and outdated.. some of it just wrong. I grabbed one at the airport a few months ago, but was looking at hiking more than the floater's guide. I will peek again and remove this if it has been fixed.
You sure this is on the right channel?

Buy Tom Kennon's book... "A Canoeing & Kayaking Guide to the Ozarks", 3rd (Canoeing & Kayaking Guides - Menasha) by Tom Kennon... He's an ACC member, a knowlegable paddler, and gives good descriptions, maps, advice and even GPS data on most of the paddle-able streams in Arkansas. Most local book-stores carry it, or, failing that, Amazon does, too... Crane

That free one is great, but one of my favorites, because of the maps, is a magazine size paperback called "Rivers and Rapids" A guide to floating and fishing the streams of Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma by Bob Narramore and Ben Nolen. It is out of print but available used online. (I got a copy in today's mail.) I'm sure some of the outfitter info has changed since it was published but it's still a good resource.
