You might be surprised how this page reaches certain influential people quickly. Do not think your concerns land on deaf ears.

Thanks to everyone out there who has paid attention to this thread. It shows that you are concerned about the preservation of what we have in Arkansas that is special. If those who have power to affect what happens to our environment take notice we are all greatful.
I know personally that the people who staff our state and federal agencies really care. They need our help to show policy and budget makers that what they do is important and we the people care about more than our own bottom line.
This is why it is important for as many of us as possible to make comments and calls and keep our eyes open for things out there that are wrong.
Thanks to the ACC! A really great bunch!

Most Counties arnt aware of the State Aid they can receive by building their roads to meet State Specs. The County Judge has to put the project on the State Aid list. The road must be a thoroughfare and have no deadends to meet just some of the requirements. If a county will build a road that has a 24' base, 22' top and 48' of right of way and a few other conditions the State Aid is great. The State will pay 90% of the project which meens the county will have to pay 10%. Most County Judges dont have road/bridge construction in there resume, so they just dont know. Plus it's a lot of work!! They are the "good ole boys". Ive always said the ones in charge need some "on hands" training, not just who you know to get elected. I may be a little off on some of this, it's been 10years since ive built any roads/bridges. The ADEQ will have to check on the project since it's been reported and will make them put/build some sort of erosion control. Thanks Debo and Cowper for helping to keep our rivers clean!!!
Sincerely,

Thanks Adam. You are not the first person that I have heard from about county judges. Many of them seem not to be aware of the resources or powers of the office to which they have been elected. It might be a good idea to see if the state could provide training for the them. I think you have a point that they could probably help solve many of our problems if they knew more about some of these resources.

thanks for the efforts. i think dirt roads account for 95% of silt into streams. a lot of roads parallel streams due to topography and road crews try to keep water off the roads by funneling ditches toward creeks.
