The race has concluded and Russellville Venture Crew 300 has managed to win back the overall trophy from the Bogalusa, LA crew. They also managed to win the aluminum canoe and Coed divisions. It was a very close race with the win coming down to the last leg of the third day. There were only 44 seconds that separated the top two teams, Crew 300 of course and a Crew from Minnesota. This was after 110 miles of racing on the White River. The race starts in Bull Shoals and ends in Batesville, 120 miles in length over 3 days. 44th Annual Boy Scout National White river race
Re: 44th Annual Boy Scout National White river race
It is good to hear that the Pope Co. scouts did so well in this years race. I commend the leaders for all their time with these youth. It is definitely a good wholesome activity.
As a young explorer scout I had the opportunity to be in that race. I think it was about 1970 and it was our first taste of real canoe racing. We showed up with old beat up aluminum canoes and featherlight wooden paddles. It was an "eye-opener" to see some of the other racers with sleek racing boats and wide paddles. We didn't do very well but it provided the start for some of our future racers that went on to compete and win on a national level. These people included Dale Burris, Steve Lynn, Bill Cains, and others. Now these folks along with Don Walls, Becky Burris, and I am sure others are the ones that lead our scouts back up to the White River race. We applaud your commitment and dedication to these young people and to the sport. Keep up the good work.

Ditto!
Congratulations the kids, and thank you to to leaders!
We sometimes hear tales about river trips involving youth groups led by adults with limited river skills, and the difficulties they encounter. So I especially enjoy hearing positive stories of groups led by those who really know what they are doing, and doing well because of it.
Good job to all!

Thanks guys. These youth are fun to paddle with and they push us to get better so it is a win-win situation. Stop by sometime and say hi if you get the chance. We are out at the Russellville Ski/Disc Golf area every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 during the spring and summer time. Right now we are on our way to the last big race of the season, USCA canoe nationals up in Wisconsin. We and several of our scouts are competing next weekend in the solo and tandem classes. We want to get there a few days early to get used to the cooler weather.
