Gala Creek acces Problem ??????

Post by bird dog » Tue Aug 03, 2010 6:21 pm

I was driving by the Gala Creek Put in today and noticed “Posted” signs.
Is there a land owner problem there now?
It really does not affect me, a class II open boater and that is a little above my comfort level, but I enjoy reading the trip reports.

There's purple paint all along the north side of the creek on the top of the run. I always come in on the south side of the creek east of the bridge. Where was the sign posted??? I have never had any or heard of any run ins with land owners on Galla. Not saying that it couldn't happen. There isn't much room to park at the top so shuttle bunnies are the best way to minimize our aesthetic impact at the put in.

I saw them today. They are new signs. There has always been purple paint on the downstream side from the bridge. I guess i will just keep putting in on the upstream side and hope for the best.

we need to find out who owns the land on the south side and see if we can buy an acre or two i would def go in on that if we dont it could mean the end of galla

I think the landowner lives on the first house on the left past the bridge. His yard comes down to the creek and he has always had some old yellow posted signs and purple paint on the trees by his yard.

U can stop by the house in the curve on the right (between Hudson Road and the bridge) i think they own the land, so talk to them they are a nice older couple. they will probably know more about the spot where u guys are parking, if there are any issues with parking and puting in on Galla let me know i live up there and can help u guys out. i know its a good run, i have never kayaked it (think im scared of it haha) but i grew up swimming and fishing that creek. so i will help out if any issues.
