Playboat with the best outfitting?
Playboat with the best outfitting?
I have a jackson super star and am not a huge fan of the happy feet, which i know i can replace easily enought, but I also find the back band lacking. It seems to loosen easily.
What boats are comparable but have better outfitting.
By the way I am in no way a skilled playboater so probably any boat would feel nearly the same to me.
thanks
eric

I found some where that showed to swap out the existing rope system with the ratchet setup. The rachets used the bolts from the existing rope system so not holes had to be made for that. Looked straight forward and harmless to the boat. I have been researching because i have the same problems with the current system.

Re: Playboat with the best outfitting?
I believe Jackson went with the "keep it simple" philosophy. Which is probably one of the main reasons they have excelled so quickly in the playboat market. There is alot of twisting and turning as well as quick change of direction when playboating. I have nothing against rachet systems, but the more complex you make something, the more points of failure it has. Personally, I have not had any trouble with the rope backband, but I would rather retighten a rope backband every now and then as opposed to have a rachet break......which has happened to me. Personal opinion, but I believe you will be very disappointed if you change the outfitting. Keep in mind the rope has to be very tight in there for it to work properly.

Eric,
Pretty much anything would be better than that superstar you are paddling. So you should probably just sell it to me.

I have a hero. At first I did not like the backband . It has to be tight. Make sure that you adjust the sweet cheeks. I love the system now that I learn to adjust it. Its quick and simple.

Re: Playboat with the best outfitting?
( not saying this is your case ) but most of the people that say they don't like the happy feet don't have them adjusted right. Jacksons website has instructions on how to use them. If you follow those they don't move around. That is the complaint I hear from most folks. They take a little messin with but once you figer them out they are the best thing going. Just my 2 $ worth

Re: Playboat with the best outfitting?
thanks for the input. I always get the backband extremely tight and then after a few flip overs and rolls it has loosened.
Not a huge issue, but was curious for input.
I have never had a boat with the ratchet set up, but it does look like it works well.
thanks

Re: Playboat with the best outfitting?
It loosens or slides down on you back? I have never had my backband loosen or pop loose. I have had it slide down and feel funny. There is a shox cord on the back of the backband that adjusts it up and down might check that. Alot of time it will slide all the way to the bottom and not do right

Re: Playboat with the best outfitting?
The seat has moved on me on occasion. I am considering putting hose clamps on to hold it instead of the zip ties that mine has currently.

I have never had to tighten my hose clamp to keep my seat from moving. Are the finger screws underneath your hip pads tight?

Check out this backband solution for your Jackson boat. Haven't tried it yet, but looks simple and workable.
