Thanks for trying to do the right thing. If you haven’t already, I’d try contacting the National Park Service, since the most logical thing for the owner to do would have been to report the lost canoe to the rangers. You may be passed around a little bit before you find the right person, but it is worth a try. Here are some phone numbers; you could either try the main headquarters, or the ranger station closest to the section where you found the boat:
