When we were all at The Ledge Sunday morning and the instructor candidates were working on swimming&ropes, Mike Beebe's wedding ring slipped off of his finger while out in the water... Mike later mentioned something something about loosing a ring at this place. Like everyone else, I was somewhat tired and didn't listen well enough to understand he wasn't talking about a past event. Later when Marlo and I were at home visiting on the back porch, she said, "No Jim, he lost his ring Today..." I was very unhappy to finally realize this...

Last evening I decided I would return to scene today and have a look. I gathered my dive mask, and an old pair of jungle boots last night as well as applying a dab of Aqua Seal to the coil wire connection on my metal detector so I could use it partially underwater.

When I returned to The Ledge this morning I first made a visual search but no dice. I then decided the only way to proceed would be the metal detector so I put the headphones on and got started. Within 10' feet of the bank, I found a couple of pieces of junk, then had a real decent hit about 15 feet out @ about 3' of depth. The bottom , as you all know, is covered in chunks of rock, as I moved several pieces then surveyed the site again, I found Mike's ring about 6" deep where the current had lodged it under the rocks. When I got back to the bank I gave Mike a call to describe the ring and inscriptions and he said, "That's It!..."

I just love it when a plan comes together, and most grateful to be of some assistance.

Best Regards
Jim Moose

Larry, the story is that you can't have too many friends. I'm forever grateful for Jim taking time out this morning to locate my missing wedding ring. Jim, I appreciate you more than you'll ever know for your willingness to help others. Susan said I can come back in the house now. Now that is my side of the story.

   Just ANOTHER example of how kayakers go out of their way to help others! Thanks, Jim, for all you do. All my interactions with you and Marlo have been very positive--from that first meeting at the Oyster Bar, to the takeout and shuttle at the last day of Rec School. I especially appreciate your help after the Caddo float.
