Grand Canyon Trip Report (prelim version)

Post by pnut » Sat Jul 03, 2010 1:21 am

As I expected the grand canyon was 1) AWESOME, and 2) some of the biggest water I have paddled.

So the quick and dirty

Rapids: House rock, it turns out in my opinion is an underated rapid we had our only raft flip, and rower swim there (no kayakers swam the entire trip) the roaring twenties, the gems, horn, hermit crystal, lava, granite etc where all awesome, with hermit (i ran it blind at high water) and lava probably the most fun I have ever had in a kayak

Hikes: we did a lot silver grotto, deer creek, tapeats creek, mad cat canyon, elves chasm, the grainary, unkar delta, etc etc will elaborate more when I get more time where all pretty awesome as well

Lessons learned: If you find a rattlesnake in your raft just because you throw it out and it disappears does not mean you have relieved yourself of said snake you may find out that said snakes rode down the river for two days in your rafts made it into a kayak was paddled down hermit and then carried back to the top of that rapid before being paddled across the river to be gotten rid of for good. , if you are going to hike tapeats creek start early, take food, and wear real shoes  , and finally making a three raft floatilla while drinking red bull and vodka may or may not lead to the popping of a raft.

we truly had the best time ever if you are my friend on facebook I have lots of photos up not sure i can post a link to the photos here or not or if you have to be my friend to see them

I am glad for you about the trip (living in LA a man needs to go see the canyon waters I', sure!), jealous about it(nothing else needs to be said there), and want to hear more (especially about the rattle snake and running the falls!)

Stovall trip (June 21-July 9) report should be coming tomorrow or the next day. We're still on our way home.
