Surf & Turf Volunteers

Post by Jeremy M » Wed Jun 30, 2010 10:10 am

Hey hey hey!

Its that time again. The Arkansas Canoe Club's Central Chapter event Surf & Turf will be held on July 31st at the Porterfields side of the Rockport Ledge in Malvern....Gonna give you a run down on what I've got handled and where I need some help.

Porta-Johns - Hays Rental
Grill - provided through Chris Martin
Charcoal - free from Royal Oak
Burgers, Dogs, Buns, and Condiments
Chips - Razorback Vending

Gonna need some help on COOKING...so all you grill daddies out there post here to volunteer to cook. Need 3 or 4 guys...

Need some volunteers also to bring some side items and/or deserts

And also just some general help cleaning/picking up on Sunday before we leave the Porterfields side. Yes, that side will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

As usual the Ouachita Outdoor after party will be held Saturday night at the shop! Special guests, TEAM DEMSHITZ will be present all weekend for Pyranha demos, playboating clinics, etc....Paddle with the Bros!! May also be a special surprise at the store party!!

For those that have organized this event in the past, if I'm missing something, please let me know.

Thanks.

Porterfields will be open early on Saturday morning to get the grill set up, etc....so, I'm gonna say 9:00 a.m. on that, so show up when you want...burgers will probably start coming off the grill around 11:30 or so, not sure when the water will be there, hopefully all day, but we'll see. Around 6 or 6:30...I'll be headed back to the shop (O.O.O.) to get set up for the after party....

Hope to see you there....

Ted...any chance of a special release request this late in the game?

What a deal! I never leave early anyway, and always help with the cleanup.

Now I can just be me and still be considered as an Official Event Volunteer!

(this is toooooo easy)

I'm certain Cowper will chime in with directions to Porterfields, ie...GPS coordinates, but I will tell you that if you're wanting to camp close I can have the Porterfields side opened up for camping if that makes it easier on you and your family....Don't mind at all..

N34.3928 W92.8475 (degrees, decimal degrees)
N34 23.567 W92 50.851 (degrees, minutes, decimal minutes)

These are for the gate at Porterfields. Either set of numbers can be cut-and-pasted into maps.gooole.com to get traditional driving directions with road numbers, etc. if you're not using a GPS in your car.

There's a pretty broad range of motels in Malvern; from older mom-and-pop type "bargain" motels, to a relatively older Super 8, to a couple that have been built within the last 5 years and still have that "new" smell to everything.
Running from "good if it is raining" to "good-better-best", you'd probably get
America's Best
Super 8
Comfort Inn
Holiday Inn Express *
* This one is walking distance from the ledge, but you wouldn't want to carry your boat that far.

Google the motel name with Malvern, AR and you'll get phone numbers and more. If the weather is good, camping at Porterfields would be the ticket - you're pretty much guaranteed to be in good company, even if the facitilities are a bit primitive.

Yes, the ramp of death will be there! Not sure how Big J is planning on hauling it down to the boat ramp. It will all work out.

How far does the ramp of death need to be towed? You could probably talk Monica into it if it's not too far.
