VERIZON-ALLTEL-AT&T DEAL CLOSE TO FINAL
This week, the Wall Street Journal reported that AT&T's $2.35 billion acquisition of Alltel assets from Verizon - a condition for the $28.1 billion sale - is nearing approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
The regulatory sign-off on the asset sale was expected to close in the first quarter of this year, but new leadership at the FCC has slowed down scrutiny of major transactions and delayed closure of the deal, according to many industry observers. A smaller transaction that was part of the sale has already been completed.
Verizon sold about $200 million worth of assets to Atlantic Tele-Network, Inc., whose subsidiary, Allied Wireless, has located in Little Rock. Several former Alltel executives are associated with that company.
When the AT&T side of the deal is complete, it will bring closure to the sale that was announced in June 2008.

AT&T Coverage in Newton County
FYI - AT&T Wireless customers are about to get better coverage in Newton County. Previously my coverage there was spotty at best and folks with Verizon - formerly Alltel always seemed to have much better coverage up there. Chasing creeks sometimes you really do need a good connection.

Hate to burst your bubble on this one but all of the ALLTEL property in Arkansas is staying with Verizon.
