Eddy Flower Vertical Challenge

Post by unicorn » Tue May 25, 2010 8:50 pm

So it's a little late now but I just heard about this and think we should put together a team or two for next year. Arkansas is poorly represented, and doesn't even have any runs listed, but I'm sure that by the time next year rolls around we can remedy that.

Thoughts?

A couple of us from Fayetteville that are out west for the summer are competing (Josh Rogers, Noel Parker, Ryan Spanke, and myself and our friend from Texas Brian). Josh, Noel, and Spanke are all working the Royal Gorge, and I am currently in Idaho for the summer. Unfortunately we have all been busy since getting to our respective jobs, so we haven't had a ton of time to put up laps. We are currently 4th in our division and everyone has only paddled 1 or 2 days since the competition began (I have paddled 3, but one was weak!), so not to bad. Everyone is planning to finish strong though. You can see the standings by going to;

http://eddyflower.com/VerticalStandings.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On that note, the whole point of this competition is to raise money for the charity First Descents. If you haven't heard of it, take some time and check out their website HERE (Click HERE). They are a great grass-roots charity that provides cancer survivors with a free, week long kayak camp in Colorado. Their goal is to cure young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empower them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

I know there are a lot of deserving charities out there and the economy stinks right now, but if you feel so inclined we would appreciate any and all donations for a charity that is using an outlet we all cherish in an extremely positive manner. You can donate in support of our team online by going to http://eddyflower.com/MakeDonation.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , selecting either Matt Taylor, Ryan Spanke, Josh Rogers, Noel Parker, or Brian Gibson from the drop down list, and selecting or determining the amount you would like to donate. Yes, the teams and individuals that raise the most money win prizes, but we are more concerned with having fun, trying to log some feet, and supporting a good cause. So feel free, if you would prefer to simply donate in the name of a good cause to mail a check for your desired amount payable to "First Descents" to First Descents PO BOX 2193 Vail Colorado 81658 attention Kelley Brupbacher.

If you are interested I have a few updates of my summer so far on my blog, which included a stint in New Mexico with Spanke, Noel, Brian, and Josh (for a day) that you can check out here;

Hope everyone is having a good summer, and enjoying the late season water. Thanks!

- Matt Taylor

way too late for a team, but we oughta start entering AR creeks and rivers so that if we did start a team next year we could log distance.

We are actually in third, and if Noel and myself can get around to Clear Creek of the Ark, (and hopefully Josh too) that would put us in first. Unfortunatly we are all extremly poor right now waiting for the rafting season to pick up, and Josh is busy doing training. So its going to take a combination of time off and money for that to happen. I'm sure we can manage in the next 15 days. We have also had big plans to run pine creek/number and lapping it, but Noels drytop is totally useless with the exception of holding cold water in. It was also extremly windy and snowing, so five laps turned into one and we will hopefully be returning soon to finish that.

After Noel and I's five laps on Clear Creek, with the fifth lap putting three cracks in his boat, our team is now in first place in our division. Thanks Noel for taking me kayaking since you spotted the entire bill. Thanks Tyler for the donation, even though you put it under Josh's name :poke: . At first I wasn't sure what Unicorn was talking about when he said the "poorly represented" Arkansas team didn't have any runs listed. I thought he was blatantly talking about Fayetteville's Finest, but the only Arkansas team without any laps or feet is under the name "Unicorn". So I guess I can't hold any hard feelings. We are looking for another Creekboat for Noel so if anyone wants to donate to the cause just let us know

Spanke,

I'm pretty sure he didnt mean that AR is poorly represented by Arkansas Finest. He meant that AR is being poorly represented because we have no runs listed in the state that could be entered into the Vertical Challenge. Good luck and Ill see ya'll in about a month.

Spanke,

I meant IN Arkansas. You guys are representing very well.

And yes there are no laps logged under the team - I had to register to be able to see what was listed IN the state - hence this thread.

Keep it up.

OOOOH, that makes me feel better. Sorry for getting so defensive then and thanks for the donation. We are back down in third and we can still win, but I think its more likely we get second. The first place team is only two guys and they have been running the stuff for sure. They are beating us in feet with 21 less laps than we have. I still do not have all my royal gorge or BSC runs, and hopefully we can still get numbers/pine creek. Anyways, wish us luck

Lake creek's pumping 2G's right now. Should be able to make some REALLY fast laps there if you're wanting to catch up Spankster! :twisted:
Smile, summer run-off is coming!!!
