tree down blocking the cadron creek

Post by 1958MGA » Sat May 22, 2010 10:48 pm

Just a heads up: i don't know how long its been there but a tree is crossing the cadron about a quarter mile upsttream from the Hwy 65 bridge. Its in a bad palce in the middle of a left-right rapid, and is completely blocking the river and appears to be dangerous.

I haven't been on the cadron in a year and it wasn't there last year - so it may be well known to paddlers but it was a surprise to us and involved taking some quick action to avoid it....Bruce

Where you still able to go under the right side? I know at 2.5' our canoe went under the right side fairly easy.

We floated it last Saturday when the level was at 4 feet. I was able to get under it on the far right side by laying flat in the kayak and sliding under with just a few inches clearance. The rest of my group dragged their kayaks around it, but it's not easy to do so.

I first floated the Cadron this season in March and the tree was down then. It's a big tree too.

As low as the water is now, it's easy to go under the tree. Right side has more clearance. Even with the water that low, it's a great float.

I went down the Cadron at 6ft and was able to paddle through the trees to the right of the downed tree with minimal problems. A couple of weeks later I went down at 3 and a half feet. Everyone was portaging to the right and having a hard time so I jumped in and swam my wife and I's kayaks under the tree. It was surprisingly easy! You could just walk under with a hand on each boat. Everyone that had just carried their boats over were quite annoyed  Hope this helps everyone.
